Kurt padded out of the bathroom, tossing his towel down on his desk chair as he picked up his phone off of the desk. He smiled as he scrolled through his texts. Kurt had just left Dave's house not even an hour ago, and Dave had already sent him six texts. If they all had been something about where Kurt was, he might be annoyed. But no. They were sweet texts about how cute Kurt looked today, how beautiful his eyes were, and how he should wear that shirt more often because it brought out his eyes.
Kurt shut off his light and curled up under the covers as he called Dave and waited for him to answer. He smiled as he heard Dave's deep voice on the other end, and he felt his heart swell inside his chest. He let out a small sigh. This had been a sort of routine for the past couple of weeks, and Kurt couldn't be happier. They didn't even have to talk. Kurt just liked the sound of Dave's breathing. So much that he sometimes fell asleep listening to it.
"Did you have fun today?" Dave asked.
"Of course. I always have fun when I'm with you."
"You have got to stop doing that."
"Doing what?"
"Making my heart stop like that. What if it doesn't start up again?"
"I'll save you."
"You better."
Kurt grinned and fell silent, listening to Dave's soft, slow breathing. He wished that he could be laying there, curled up against him, with Dave's arm wrapped around him, holding him close. He could still smell Dave's cologne on his pillow and he breathed it in, missing Dave even more.
"Hey Fancy?" Dave said quietly.
"Hmmm?"
"Sing me something?"
Kurt hesitated for a moment, trying to think of what he should sing. Should he sing something soft, something quiet? Should he sing something about love? Should he sing a show tune or something more mainstream?
"Fancy?"
"I'm still here. I was just trying to decide what to sing." Kurt smiled to himself as a song came to him.
"You know yet?"
"Yep. I think I have the perfect song." Kurt grinned.
I've never been in love before
Now all at once, it's you
It's you forever more
I've never been in love before
I thought my heart was safe
I thought I knew the score
But this is wine that's all too strange and strong
I'm full of foolish song
And now my song must pour
So please forgive this helpless haze I'm in
I've never really been
In love before
But this is wine that's all too strange and strong
I'm full of foolish song
And now my song must pour
So please forgive this helpless haze I'm in
I've never really been
In love before
Kurt was grinning by the time he finished the song, his voice nearly quivering from the emotion in his voice. The song wasn't new to him. He had heard and sang it countless times, but the feelings he had right now were new. Never before had he sang it with as much feeling, and never before had he sincerely meant each word he sang.
"I love you, Fancy."
"I love you, too."
"Goodnight, Kurt."
"Goodnight, Dave."
