Serenity
Notes: Inspired by a prompt found on Tumblr. Takes place at any point after the Caskett relationship was established. Short and sweet, in my opinion anyways. Hopefully you all feel the same.
Also, I suck at titles…
For weeks she had been a nervous wreck. Up all hours of the night, fretting over this or that. Worried about what was to come; what hasn't even happened. Yet he knew exactly what to do, exactly what to say to make it all better.
But all the kind words in the world, not even any of his words, could prepare her for the way she was feeling now. Right here in the very moment, she realized; this was it, this was really happening.
"Babe," she called to him from her stance in front of the mirror. "Babe, hurry! Come're!"
Castle rushed towards her from his bathroom, worry etched into every line of his face. At first glance, the gleam of unshed tears in her eyes was enough to cause alarm. It was enough to make his heart beat in his chest, his palms to sweat.
The bright smile adorning her face, crinkling the corners of her eyes, her cheeks flushed pink in utter happiness, instantly causing his nerves to settle. He kissed her temple softly when he approached, placing on hand on her lower back while whispering, "What is it, Kate?"
She kissed him softly on the lips then tilted her head towards the mirror, encouraging him to get wrapped in the little bubble she seemed to be in. "Look Rick." So he did. He looked, and he couldn't believe whhat he saw. There it was, right there in front of them. Directly above the hem of her boy shorts and below the bunched material of his t shirt, was the small yet visible swell of her belly.
All the nervous energy from the previous few weeks quickly disipated at the first visible sign of her pregnancy; suddenly, nothing else mattered. He didn't care that she'd be late for work, or that he'd be late to yet another meeting at Black Pawn. The sky could be green and the grass could be blue, but he just couldn't bring himself to care.
Almost reverently, his free hand joined hers, entwining their fingers just under the small swell that was their child and sighed, feeling a sense of calm wash over him like never before. They were going to be parents. Him and Beckett. Rick and Kate.
And he couldn't be happier.
Prompt: The first time Beckett notices her baby bump.
