Once upon a time, there lived a lovely little princess named Higurashi, Kagome. Her vain and wicked stepmother the Queen, feared that someday Higurashi, Kagome's beauty would one day surpass her own. So she dressed the little princess in rags and forced her to work as a scullery maid. Each day the Queen consulted her magic mirror, "Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?" And as long as the mirror answered, "You are the fairest one of all.", Higurashi, Kagome was safe from the Queen's jealously.

The vile, yet beautiful Queen Kikyou walked up the steps to her magic mirror. "Slave in the magic mirror," She began. "Come from the farthest space, through wind and darkness, I summon thee. " "Speak! Let me see thy face." Fire erupted in the mirror, but when the fire died down, a man with dark brown hair and beady red eyes came into view.

"What wouldst thou know, my Queen?"

Queen Kikyou had a faint conceited smirk playing her upon her lips. "Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?"

"Famed is thy beauty, Majesty. But hold, a lovely maid I see. Rags cannot hide her gentle grace. Alas, she is more fair than thee."

Queen Kikyou looked beyond outraged as she crossed her arms. "Alas for her! Reveal her name!"

"Lips red as the rose. Hair black as ebony. Skin as white as snow."

The Queen gasped. "Kagome!"

Dressed in ragged clothing, the young, beautiful Kagome was cleaning the palace steps. She was humming a soft and quiet tune, and was surrounded by snow white doves. Her elbow length black hair brushed her cheek, and she quickly pushed it behind her ear with pale, delicate fingers. Kagome let out a sigh, as she splashed water on the last step to remove the soap. None the less, she got up and pranced over to the well happily, the doves following her, and continued her delightful to the ear humming. She then began to sing to the doves, saying of how she hopes to find the one she loves.

The young, and very handsome, Prince Inuyasha was riding on his most trusted steed, his red, white, and gold kimono, light golden skin, and dark black hair mixing together perfectly. His horse trotted by castle gates, where the Prince heard the most delectable singing. He wanted to know who this beautiful, gentle voice belonged to! He stepped off his horse swiftly, and climbed over the castle wall. It was then he saw the most beautiful young maid he'd ever laid eyes upon. He jumped down onto the green grass, startling the girl.

"Oh," Kagome exclaimed, frightened by the Prince.

"I'm sorry."

"Oh," She said again, still not recovered completely from the scare. She started to back away slowly.

"Did I frighten you," Asked Prince Inuyasha, as he walked up to her. Kagome simply nodded.

"I'm sorry…" The back of Inuyasha's hand brushed Kagome's cheek lightly. A shiver ran down her spine at the soft, gentle, and warm touch. "I'm Inuyasha."

"Kagome. Higurashi, Kagome." They both had a smile on their face.

Queen Kikyou stood in front of the kneeling huntsman. "Take her far into the forest. Find some secluded glade where she can pick wildflowers."

Huntsman Miroku nodded. "Yes, Your Majesty."

The Queen's eyes darkened. "And there, my faithful Huntsman, you will… kill her!

The Huntsman looked up at the Queen, shocked. "But, Your Majesty! The little Princess!"

Queen Kikyou slapped him across the face. "Silence! You know the penalty if you fail…"

Huntsman Miroku looked down. "Yes, Your Majesty…"

"But to make doubly sure you do not fail... Bring back her heart…" The Queen placed a jeweled box in his hands, and an evil grin spread across Queen Kikyou's face.

"In this."
