Safe and Sound

The snow blanketed upon the cold darkening earth. The sounds of pain deep from within the mournful souls of the fallen, sound throughout the desolate battle field. Among the once white landscape, a pitied sound comes forth silently, a sound so broken and anguished, so loud, yet so silent. It is the sound of death chiming in from the gates of the heavens. So beautiful, yet so depressing. Every fear is forgotten, and every pain is realised...

"Norge, norge..." A Danish warrior cradled a Norwegian man ever so gently in his arms.

"Bror...Don't leave me here alone." Nostalgia krept through the Dane's heart, gazing down at the man in his arms in a state of disbelief. How had the invasion gone so wrong?

"H-hey...You'll be alright, no one can hurt you now." The man reassured looked so empty, so very empty. He couldn't believe that in his arms he held his first friend, his brother, Norway. Norway's face contorted in pain and he groaned like floorboards in an old homestead, as his body was wracked with pain. Trying to soothe him, the Dane gently embraced him, rubbing their foreheads together.

"J-just close your eyes Norge. Come morning light, you and I'll be safe and sound." The Dane could no longer hold in his sobs. His tears streamed down his face in rivulets, landing upon the face of his brother. He felt a warm prescence on his cheek, and as he slowly rose to meet the paled face of his brother's, he found his hand resting atop the one on his cheek.

Norway had a small but visible smile across his lips as he whispered; "The sun is going down."

The Dane felt the hand begin to fall as he watched the smile slip off Norway's face, his eyes became cloudy and lifeless. His brother's soul had slipped away. The Dane's posture stiffened as the tears fell faster, a howl emanating from deep within his chest. It came as a small, pitiful howl, but turned into a long, low scream of sorrow, of anguish. It brought a feeling so deep, so infinate so...unknown to him. He slowly broke within himself.

DISCLAIMER:I do not own Hetalia in any way, these characters are not my own. Also, the part of "the invasion went wrong" does not really refer to any historical event. Norway and Denmark are very OOC I think, and I also don't claim ownership of the song "Safe and Sound".
