Kissing your lips is still sinful; it really shouldn't be, because we belong to each other and we know each other, and there are comforts that go along with that. You are a comfort to me. A rather…dirty sheets kind of comfort. Cheeseburger French-kisses kind of comfort. Sticky, groggy, groping morning sex kind of comfort. Falling over a recliner covered in your dirty laundry.

You couldn't have come into my clean-sheets world and left it unstained. I knew that, somewhere, in the back of my brain. But I thought, 'Oh, see my sweet lover! He'll come and make dry love to me on rose petals at sunset, and then we'll have coffee by the window wrapped in white satin robes!' I'm such a moron. Blonde. It's the hair.

After we've had a go or two in the sheets, the Salvation Army wouldn't take them, washed. And the first time…I couldn't even sit in the bathtub for days afterward. But I'm glad I was wrong about our kind of love. I needed to be woken up; I needed something real like you.

Every time you kiss me, I feel like I've tried to stop you or something, even though I haven't and never will. You kiss me like you have to steal my mouth; I love it. You hold me like I'm the only thing in that moment that matters at all. It's how you live: nothing happened five minutes ago, and why in God's name would you try to predict what will happen in the next? There's only now.

So I tolerate the dirty laundry, the sticky morning sex, the food breath and the…rowdiness. I more than tolerate it…I love it! Because it's you.

"Duo, quit making that 'sucky' noise on my arm! Now, see here, you've drooled on me! Gross!" And I laugh and wipe your drool back on you, and pull you in by your hair.
