Return

She wasn't sure how it happened, but it all passed by like a flash of light. She found her self thrown unto her back, the pain sending shockwaves through her battered body. She felt that familiar metallic taste in her mouth. Her breathing became labored.

The chaos around her seemed to slow down, the explosions and shouts seemed muffled, as if they were miles away from her. Time seemed to be running out. She could feel her body welcoming the serene silence.

She looked up at the night sky, and she felt it. She felt the longing and desire to see him. She sensed it in him for a long time calling out to her, but she resisted him. The force bond had somewhat grudgingly burdened her, but now she clung to it desperately. Calling out to him, sensing him and relishing in it. She felt as if she was parched and there was not enough water in the galaxy that could satiate her. She tried to call out his name, but all that came out was the gurgling of blood.

She tried once more. "Ben...Ben..." the moment his name escaped her lips she felt him at her side.

She could see him as clearly as if he stood by her in the flesh. She saw the cold stare of disbelief plastered on his face. His eyes roaming her beaten body. She felt his anger and fear. She felt all of it as if it was her own. She placed a trembling hand over his. The soft contact sent small sparks of electricity through her failing body.

"This isn't the end. I won't let it be." She recognized that look of defiance, but it was also wrapped in his pain. The force bond was a mysterious thing, she could feel his physical pain as well as if it had been her own. She could only imagine what he must be feeling. She felt like death itself.

She felt a warmth rush through her, as if all her nerve endings had been ignited. As if her body was being bathe in a healing blanket. The force. He was using his own power to sustain her. "Stop...it can kill you." She choked out...her voice almost a whisper.

He heard her long before the words even reached his ears. "I welcome it. If it takes you, it takes me." He looked at her intently, he gently wiped the blood from her tear-stained face with his thumb. It was impulsive, he knew, but he couldn't resist the closeness that he had been longing for so long. His lips softly brushed hers. As he pulled away, she felt the force engulf her suddenly in a protectiveness she had never felt before. She lost sight of him and her heart constricted in fear.

However, she felt him. Amidst the chaos she heard footsteps approaching her. She did not fear death, the force that flowed through her in abundance kept her at ease. Through the debris and smoke, she then saw the approaching shadow taking shape.

Ben.
