Monk's World

By anonymous

This was the best day of Adrian Monk's life. The guy who had killed Trudy had finally

been caught and sentenced to life without parole. His father had come back and

apologized for leaving. Ambrose had finally left the house and had met Jack jr. who was

out of jail. They were all getting along great. He was also making great progress with his

therapy and had gotten over most of his fears. To top it off, the police commissioner had

finally given him his badge back. He was a cop again, almost everything he'd ever

wanted. This was the best day of Detective Monk's life.

Dr. Stottlemeyer was making his rounds, and decided to start with Adrian Monk,

who had been his patient for the last 12 years. He hadn't spoken in 10 years, and had

been mostly catatonic since nurse Fleming had quit 5 years ago. He called nurse Teeger

over to help with the examination. Adrian was sitting on his bed, staring straight ahead,

not moving or reacting to anything. Dr. Stottlemeyer shined his penlight into Adrian's

eyes while nurse Teeger took his pulse. "His pulse is strong and steady", she reported.

"No reaction to the light", Stottlemeyer replied. "he's alive, but he's not here anymore."

He sighed, knowing there was nothing he could do except keep an eye on him and change

his medication. "Come on Natalie, we have to finish the rounds. Who's next?"

"Randy Disher, then Benji Harper, Julie Thomas, and Trudy Evans." They left the room,

Stottlemeyer looking back one last time at Adrian Monk, patient #12701 of the San

Fransisco psychiatric Hospital, and wondered just what was going on in his head.
