One Moment

Author's notes: Spoilers from At World's End. Don't Own, I wish I did because I'd keep Will ALL TO MYSELF. LOL.

Elizabeth felt herself scream as Davy Jones slid his sword into Will's chest. No, it wasn't really happening she tried to assure herself. Jack had the heart. Davy Jones should want to kill Jack, not Will.

It wasn't fair.

He stabbed Will because Will loved her.

No, it can't be. Barbossa had just married them mere minutes ago. They're life together couldn't be so short.

She touched her hand to his face. It was as cold as ice.

"Will…I…"

"Elizabeth."

All the time she had wasted ignoring him, hit her bitterly. The last couple of months she had basically stopped trying to build their relationship. She never felt so stupid before. She had to have more time. She needed it. She deserved it.

"You'll be alright." She whispered.

Will turned to her with a blank expression in his eyes. He knew he was dying. He could feel the blood dripping down his back. The hope in Elizabeth's word frightened him. Did she really think he could survive this? Or were they words to comfort a man in his dying moments?

"You'll be alright…You have to be." The uncertainty in her voice grew. "I can't live without you."

Will felt a smile attempt to reach his lips but failed.

She loved him.

Since he was eight years old he had given his heart to her. Every step he had taken was so they could be together. Of course, he had strayed off his path only for the sake of his father. But he had never looked of any other women with desire or lust. He loved only Elizabeth.

He had been sure for so many years she could never love him. She was just being friendly; he had thought when she'd smile at him. Sometimes he wanted her to love someone else.

When the rumor of Commodore Norringon's proposal had reached his ears, he tried to make himself forget her. She deserved happiness with an accomplished, wealthy man not a poor blacksmith.

As he watched her be stolen away in the night by pirates he felt a pain in his heart. It hurt so much he thought he die till he was knocked out.

He felt the same pain in his heart when Elizabeth was kissing Jack.

She always had his heart.

The marriage bliss from a few minutes ago had eased the emptiness filling his heart.

He knew he loved her.

At this one moment, he knew without fear or doubt that she loved him. With the knowledge he closed his eyes, ready for fate's cruel hand.

"I can't live without you." She heard herself say.

But she had lived without him. She had even hated him for being so smart and caring. He always tried to protect her even if she thought she didn't need it.

He'd betray everyone and everything as long as she was safe. How could a man love someone that much?

At this moment, she realized she would do anything for him. Die herself if it meant he would live. Maybe even kill herself to be with him. Is this how he always felt? Was this love? True love?

His eyes shimmered as she gazed at him lovingly. He knew now in this short time her feelings were finally realized. He felt something in his hand. Confused and dazed he tried to open his eyes but in vain.

What was happening?

In one moment he knew everything was about to change.
