The Marauders: Year One
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the Harry Potter books or anything in them! (Although I wish I did)
*Note* I am an American so I might not get some of the English/British terms right, so don't blame me. As for my fellow Americans... I may have just made your lives a lot easier because you no longer need to wonder what those "strange" words mean. (Yes, I know Britain came first.) #itried lol
Chapter One: The Letter
"Jamie, darling," shouted Mrs. Potter as she opened the door to James' massive room. "It's time to wake—". Mrs. Potter stopped and stared at her son, who was sitting on his bed gawking at a letter. James Potter was 11 years old, and had been excitedly anticipating the arrival of this letter since he was 7 years old.
So suddenly, that Mrs. Potter jumped, James (first carefully set his precious letter on his bed) ran to his mother and jumped up and down.
"I'm going to Hogwarts!", he shouted, ecstatic. Mrs. Potter beamed, "Let me go get your father," and left a very excited James to stare at his letter one last time before leaving to go get his supplies.

Lily Evans woke with a start. She just had a strange dream where it was very dark, but something kept tapping her head, yet every time she tried to get rid of it, it kept waving a paper in her face. It was getting quite annoying. Wait... what was that? Lily screamed as she saw an owl fly into her room. The owl dropped a letter on her nightstand and flew out an open window. Funny... that window hadn't been open before.
Lily hadn't actually believed her friend Severus when he told her that she was a witch. In fact, she was quite insulted. But thank God that he did, because if he hadn't she would've been very startled. Moments later, Mrs. Evans came into the room with a frying pan and a worried expression, followed by a rather startled looking Petunia.
"What's all the screaming about?", Lily's mother looked exhausted, her dark auburn hair in a mess, and her almond-shaped green eyes had circles under them. Petunia looked even more disastrous with her hair an exact replica of her mother's and her big brown eyes barely open as she angrily squinted into the light. Lily looked like her father with her mother's eyes. She had bright red hair that gracefully cascaded down her back in perfect waves, with her mother's almond-shaped, emerald green eyes. The only difference was, at the moment, Lily's eyes had no bags under them, and wide-eyed, she guiltily looked up at her mother and sister, Petunia.
"I'm sorry I scared you, mummy, but an owl flew into my window," Lily explained quietly. Petunia cackled, suddenly she was awake. "An owl flew into your window?" Petunia looked like she was on laughing gas. "How stupid do you think we are?" She laughed and walked away, leaving Lily and her mother behind.
Lily looked down and took the letter from her lap. "I wasn't fibbing, mum! I can prove it!" She gave her mother the letter. "The letter is from a prestigious school called Hogwarts! Severus told me all about it! I didn't believe him at first, but—"
"Lily darling, calm down. You've been telling me about this school all summer!" Her mother said, but you could tell tht her mother was just as excited as Lily. "Oh, my little baby's magical!" Emily Evans gushed, happily. Suddenly there was a sharp knock on the door. "That must be Dumbledore," said Lily, "Severus told me that he would probably come to explain things to you."
