I kinda got this idea from an Avatar one-shot by Sara Jaye – go check them out if you haven't, they're a great writer. Inspiration for this was from Sara Jaye, everyone! Set somewhere after the Southern Raiders, on their journey to Ember Island.
The plot bunnies came to me and now I have to write this down! Someone mentioned them to me and I thought – I've never really had the plot bunnies attack me…but WAIT THEY ARE HERE NOW!
So I must write.

Read on, my brave warriors!
It seemed only Zuko was really aware of the slightly interesting conundrum he and his fellow campers – it was a rather mild term for what they were doing, but appropriate all the same – had found themselves in.
Whilst they were flying, which they had been doing a lot of in the past few weeks, whilst Aang and Katara were up front, and Suki and Toph were torturing Sokka, Zuko had been sifting through their supplies, and realised something that was going to cause a few…problems.
He found it rather humorous, really.
He leant up against Appa as everyone else began setting up camp then he said dryly, "We only have two sleeping bags."
Later
Zuko was enjoying this immensely. He, Aang and Sokka were uncomfortably stuffed into the sleeping bag.
"Sokka, stop wriggling!"
"Well, stop kicking me, air boy!"
The girls were not faring much better, and eventually Toph earthbended both Katara and Suki onto the ground.
"Ow! Toph!"
"Ok, ok," Katara shouted over all the bickering, "This isn't working."
"I'll say," Suki grumbled.
"Can I go with Suki now?"
Katara rolled her eyes, "Ok, everyone, lets try this in twos. Sokka, take your sleeping bag with Suki, Toph…"
"Oh no, I am not going with Sparky!"
Katara sighed, "Fine, we'll try threes again then, Toph, if you're so adamant about it. Toph, go with Sokka and Suki, and I'll go with Aang and Zuko." Zuko could actually feel Aang's suddenly testy gaze on his back, and he tried hard not to laugh. This was getting better by the second.
Katara gingerly slid into the sleeping bag, and Aang caught Zuko's eye. There was so much concealed rage there that Zuko might've taken a step back if he hadn't been Azula's brother. Katara looked up at both of them, "Erm…guys? What're you doing?"
"Nothing," Aang said curtly, "but, you know what? I think I might just go sleep on Appa, this won't fit all of us." And with that he turned on his heel and walked up to the sleeping sky bison. He climbed onto his tail, and lay there, looking up at the sky. Zuko bit his lip, again trying not to laugh at Katara's expression.
"I think I'll go…see if he's ok."
She ran off after him, and he heard her quiet whisper of, "Aang," as she slid up next to him; he sat up.
Zuko moved the sleeping bag a little before getting into it. As Katara and Aang's murmurs died down and the other three stopped bickering, he looked around at everyone else. Sokka, with his arms around both girls, his head turned towards Suki whilst Toph was cuddled up to his side, and Katara and Aang, whose arms were now around each other, Katara's head resting on Aang's shoulder; a peaceful smile on his face, their eyes closed and the spare blanket wrapped around them both.
Seeing them all like that, made him realise something. He saw them, for the first time, for what they actually were.
A family.
He couldn't help but feel distinctly alone.
Maybe he shouldn't hide the supplies next time.
