Friends. Just friends. What a joke. How could she just have ignored her own feelings like that? Her heart ached just thinking about it.
"Just friends, my ass," she muttered, flopping down on her bed.
What was going through her head as she spoke those words? They had almost kissed, for heaven's sake! And then she went and pulled that crap! It was clear that she loved him. At least, it was clear to Aelita. She had fallen and fallen hard. It was difficult to be near him now.
Did he feel the same? According to Odd he did. But whenever she thought about it all the reasons for saying what she did popped into her mind, just as they did now. She shoved the thoughts away angrily.
"Damn it," was her only thought before she fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.

Just friends. If that's what she wanted, he would respect that. No matter how much he loved her. He would move on. Even if she started dating William, if she was happy, he was happy. He loved her that much.
