Mitko
If love was all there was in the world, then yes, maybe, we could follow our hearts.
Hearts concern themselves with love, consuming our bodies and souls. But our minds, never.
Our minds are always elsewhere. Our minds are concerned with what goes on beyond the bodies
feeble limitations.
If love was all there was in the world, then our minds would not hold us back from fulfilling our
heart's desires, but my love, my beloved, there is more than love in this world; there is cruelty,
persecution and pain. Because of this I have to go.
It is better for both of us, you will see.
Mitsui set down the letter he was reading, tears silently running down his cheeks. These were age
old tears, these tears he'd first cried a year ago to date, but still he had not cried them all.
Staring blankly out of the window at a perfect blue sky, his mind full of what could have been.
When Kiminobu Kogure had packed his things and left his long-term boyfriend, leaving nothing
but a note one stormy December night, Mitsui's heart had been cruelly ripped out.
It is better for both of us, you will see.
Suppressing a fresh wave of tears, Mitsui refolded the letter and slipped it back into it's envelope.
The envelope itself was addressed solely to; My Only Beloved' as if the boy had tried, in a last
attempt, to console Mitsui with the assurance that there was no other in his heart.
The scar-faced boy looked around his tiny box room. Unemployed and friendless he lived alone,
the benefits he received were barely enough to feed him.
The peeling, yellowing wallpaper and the dark stains on the carpet showed beyond doubt the
neglect the lone occupant showed, not only to the flat, but also to himself.
He was unable to cope alone. Since Kogure's departure, Mitsui's grief had prevented him from
keeping his job of coaching a local youth basketball team, and the bitterness had etched itself on
his soul, slowly devouring him from the inside.
Now he no longer cared. Now he cared for nothing, except his illusive Min-kun.
It is better for us both, you will see.
And the light that was Mitsui Hisashi's life slowly faded.
