…So… I got bored, and this idea came to me. Don't worry; I'll update Betrayals and Kittypets soon enough, but… well… yeah.
From a young age, ever since she gained control of her metamorphagus powers, Dora had been experimenting with her hair. One day it would be electric blue; the next raven black. From orange to purple, she tried every color of the rainbow and beyond. But one day, in her third year of Hogwarts, she found her perfect color.
Bubblegum pink.
Since then, that was her one and only color. Except for once a year, on her birthday. Then, she would test out greens or blues, simply for contrast.
No one who knew her ever expected that to change. 'It's always pink,' they would say. 'Light pink; the color of bubblegum. That's how it will always be.'
But change it did. When she graduated Hogwarts and joined the order, her hair still held its pink hue. When the Potters died in Godric's Hollow, her hair stayed pink. But when she married the one and only Remus Lupin, she began showing up with hair of a different color.
Red. Dark red.
She got countless questions, all asking the same thing: why? She answered every question the same way: My husband likes it like this.
Then they approached him, and asked him the same question. He answered that he simply liked her hair that way. But there was more to it than that.
How could he ever explain the real reason? How could he explain that the only girl he had ever loved wasn't his wife; it was a schoolmate from long ago, long dead. How could he explain that seeing her hair on his wife was the only thing that kept him going on days that seemed ever hopeless? He couldn't. That's why he simply stated that he liked the color.
She knew, of course. He would be cruel to marry a woman who was under the deception of love. She always knew. But she hoped. Hoped that if she did what he asked; if she kept her hair a particular shade of red, that he would grow to love her as much as he did that other girl who still haunted his dreams.
Maybe he would, eventually. But he would never, ever forget the wonderful girl who had beautiful red hair.
This was short and pointless. But for some reason, I like it. So… yeah. Check out my other story too, if you haven't already. Bye!
