Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or the song "Everything Burns" by Anastacia.
Her eyes didn't even flicker as the flames consumed everything and rose higher and higher, until the last of her memories turned into ashes. The last of anything that she ever bothered to hold close to her heart was gone. She showed no grief, and her body turned numb from the pain the longer she stood there.
She hated it all.
The fire was still going strong, but it would fade sooner or later, like everything else in her life. The light illuminated the whole graveyard, and the smallest smile of satisfaction crept onto Hinata's lips. While the fire continued on, she sat down cross-legged on the ground.
She bit down hard as the hate rose up in her from the bottom of her stomach, and burned their way to her throat.
"I hate you all," Hinata whispered to herself quietly.
She fell back on the floor, and then rolled herself sideways and closed her eyes. Her fingers slowly curled around the knife she had in her pocket, and she pulled it out.
Tears blurred her eyes, but they wouldn't fall, because there was nothing left of her to cry for. A maniacal giggle emitted from her mouth at the thought of her tears being dried up.
With the greatest amount of strength she had, Hinata took the knife and dug it sharply into the ground beside her. Then she began to drag the knife, etching an H into the dirt. She whispered to no one, because no one ever listened.
"Hate is what I've become, look at me now."
An "I" appeared.
"Inside me it breeds, it grows, it burns, it hurts. Something I can't get rid of."
The letter "N" followed shortly.
"Not good enough. Never good enough."
She carved an "A".
"Are you satisfied with yourself now? Does it make you feel good that I'm feeling this way?"
Then a "T".
"Taken advantage of was all I've ever been good at, wasn't it? No talent, no skills, nothing. I may have had everything in this world that I wanted, but I had nothing. Nothing ."
The dirt spelled out her name, engraved rather harshly, and the last letter emerged, an "A".
"A lie, a mistake, a constant scapegoat for everything and everyone to use and toss away. You didn't keep the promise, and you never heard me, and you don't care."
She couldn't concentrate on anything anymore as her mind began to close up on her and the dead trees and pitch dark night began to die out.
Till everything burns,
While everyone screams,
Burning their lies,
Burning their dreams,
All of this hate,
And all of this pain,
She'll burn it all down,
While her anger reigns.
She woke up to the rain pelting her face, soaking her skin, her clothes, everything around her. It drowned out her pain, and for once in her life, she felt freedom unlocking the chains that always brought her down, always grounded her to her own misery.
This was independence.
And Hinata was truly free.
She pushed herself to stand up, staggered a little, and then slipped away.
A/N: Doesn't make much sense now, but this is going to be linked with one of my future SasuHinas. Very short, I know, but it has been a long time since I posted anything up. Reviews are much appreciated.
