The Kyuubi was slowly beginning to poison his organs, the amount increasing exponentially whenever he excessively used chakra. Losing control time and time again, never failing to choke on his own blood afterwards. There seemed to be permanent red stains in the form of drip marks below his bottom lip because he was always internally bleeding. The dark circles underneath his once bright blue orbs were growing, and the strength that it took to smile was almost too much for him to handle.
Almost every time his chakra pulsated and flared out of control yet another one of the dreaded tails appeared, bringing monstrous amounts of the Kyuubi's energy out of the seal and into his body. Things were to the point where he could no longer hide what was happening to him; everywhere he went the ominous crimson chakra leaked out of his body in wispy trails. At the rate his condition was deteriorating Naruto knew that it was extremely unlikely that he would live long enough to take the chuunin exams again, much less actually chase after his dream of becoming Hokage.

The day Sasuke chose to return to his home village was a very special time for him. July twenty third, his own birthday. He was going to destroy the village in Itachi's name and eliminate the selfish ninja who had given him the run around ever since his clan's murder. That was his wish. Little did he know that that day his best friend was writhing on the floor of Tsunade's office, his seal out of control. The many tails of the fox had begun to form, and his eyes were a deep crimson. His once kind eyes showed nothing of compassion, or even recognition, to anything around him.
When the Uchiha neared the building the first thing that registered in his mind was the desperate screeches coming from within. They hit his ears like a powerful jutsu, completely knocking rationality aside. Seconds later waves of hostile chakra expanded from the building, more potent and wicked in nature than anything he had ever felt before. As Sasuke forced himself to near the office's window the air crackled with tension.
As soon as he finally gathered the courage to face the malevolent force he was stunned to see the source. Naruto, thrashing on the floor, with all nine tails swaying around his pained form was the only thing he could see. The sight seemed branded to his retinas, and out of instinct his sharingan activated. Something inside him was screaming at the pain the blonde was in, but was drowned out by the frantic shrieks still assaulting his eardrums. Before he could move forward to break the window his ruby orbs met those of Naruto's. And what he saw there scared him.
He could always depend on Naruto to chase him and be a cheery nuisance, but that wasn't what he saw now. In the depths of his former friend's eyes he could see nothing but bloodlust. They were the eyes of a spiteful killer, a demon so powerful and lost that it felt no regret as it ripped lives to shreds with bare hands.
Then the hateful eyes rolled back into Naruto's head and the chakra receded back into the faded seal. His limp form flopping onto the ground the blonde looked anything but peaceful. Blood splattered his face and the front of his jacket from the final revolt of the Kyuubi, and his one tan skin was drawn and pale. His sharingan couldn't find even a trace of the obnoxious blue tinted chakra that had once inhabited the crumpled heap on the floor. Of the person he had once been team mates with, the number one unpredictable ninja he was willing to call his only friend was gone.
Was this what he had wished for just minutes in the past?
