The Targaryen Dynasty was supposed to last until the end of time, for they were the rightful rulers of the Seven Kingdoms and the Blood of Old Valyra, but the reality was that for the first time since Aegon and his sister wives started their conquest the rule of the Dragonlords of the old Freehold was in danger.

Not knowing that years would pass until the prince would lay eyes on his little dragon once more he knelt down in front of her bed and took Rhaenys little hand softly, bringing it to his lips. Confusion and sadness was written all over the little girls face and even though it pained him to leave her behind he hid that emotion well, for he did not want to worry her further. "You have to be brave now, little dragon.", he announced and even though she was still so young there was something in those brown eyes of hers that made him believe that she was wise beyond her years and when the little princess told him that there was no need to worry, that she was certain that Rhaegar would defeat the evil men it almost broke his heart. Slowly he stood up and took her in his arms, where the little girl clung tightly to him. Holding her closely he bent forward and his lips made contact with her forehead. "Be brave, my princess, for your mother and brother will need you when I am gone.", he whispered and with her still in his arms the prince lay down on the bed and started telling her stories about the Dragonlords of old and the history of their great House like he had done many times before. Not realizing that he had been talking for quite some time and that his little dragon was already asleep he finally looked at her through his dark lilac eyes and a sad smile spread across his face. Knowing that it was time for him to leave, that the rebel forces would not wait until he had said all his goodbyes, he finally rose and left his daughters room without looking back.

On his way to his quarters he could not help but think that if he had stopped his father before things got out of control, if he had done something instead of watching his king slowly surrendering to the madness that had been coursing through his veins all along, this war would have been prevented. But were it not his and Lyannas actions that had started the uprising of rebel forces? In that moment he decided that it would do no good to look back, Lyanna was save, protected by three knights of the Kingsguard and his children and his lady wife were safe in the red keep. Having left one last stop before he could change into his armor he found himself in prince Aegons nursery. The little prince was far too young to even know that his father was leaving or that a war was raging outside these walls. With a sad smile the Dragon Prince looked down at his baby son, unaware that he would not see him grow up and then he turned around, having said all his goodbyes, for Elia could not bring herself to look at her husband.
