Hey guys! I wrote this piece for my New Years Resolution blog, and wanted to share it here.

Disclaimer: I don't own Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog, and the only thing I gain from this piece is an improvement in literary skills.

Penny sighed heavily. It wasn't that she was disappointed in the way things had been going with Captain Hammer, but she, selfishly, wanted more. She wanted him to be like those romance novel heroes. Like the ones from all those Jane Austin books she'd read in high school, or the one from Gone With the Wind. As she sat on the washer in the laundromat, she realized that she wouldn't even mind if he were like the Edward Cullen character from that confusingly inaccurate vampire series everyone was talking about. (She didn't have much of an interest in the supernatural, but when it boiled down, Penny was an Anne Rice girl at heart.) Even if he was a stalker, he seemed to have manners.

Penny burned with anger as she thought of what had happened the night before. Captain Hammer had taken her home. Okay, so she didn't think she was the kind of girl to have a one night stand, but she didn't regret it. The terrible part was afterward, when Captain Hammer asked her if she had a ride home, stating that 'You don't live here, I do' so why would she expect to stay? It left Penny feeling like trash. Rejected and unwanted.

"Penny?" She was pulled out of her thoughts by a trepidatious looking Billy. He was limping, and had a black eye, and a gauze bandage over his temple.

"Hey Billy" Penny greeted, taking in the damage. "What happened?"

Billy had planned to obtain some new plutonium alloy for a kind of invisible force field (the science lab four blocks away from his apartment was getting a shipment.) It was a simple plan, he wouldn't even need to do anything really evil to get it. He would just flash his fake company id to the guard, load up whatever he needed into a chemical transport case, and leave.

He hadn't counted on Captain Hammer (who had been even more unbearable because of his 'just-got-laid' ego boost) overseeing the operation. Billy knew that Captain Hammer didn't usually pull punches, but the beating he had received today, made all the other ones look like play-fighting.

"Nothing, some crook thought my laundry bag was something else." Billy mumbled nervously, he was a terrible liar, and he knew it. He mentally cursed when he realized his sweatshirt needed to go into the laundry, and he uneasily pulled it off, revealing to Penny a plethora of purple stains spattered across his chest (where the shirt hiked up) and arms. Suddenly Penny's boorish boyfriend didn't seem to be such a big deal.

Billy started his load, and stood by the washing machine, looking incredibly uncomfortable. He was the physical embodiment of how Penny felt, and he looked like he was in desperate need of a hug. She slid off her washer, and took a hesitant step in his direction. She had never noticed how much bigger then her he was, which made the way he looked like a kicked puppy all the more heart breaking. She tentatively put her arms around him.

Billy tensed, wondering how he hadn't noticed her intentions, before returning the gesture. It was exactly what they needed, and Billy didn't even mind that Penny was resting her head on the largest bruise he had.
