Prologue

A eight year old boy with tan skin, an average looking physique, black hair with gold highlights, and royal blue eyes ran a good distance from his orphanage. He was scared by what he learned that night. So he ran for some time to think, knowing he couldn't tell even his closest friends.

He was a long way from the safe zone made by his foster mother, Martha. When he finally stopped, he realized he had no idea where he was. He looked around the area slowly and cautiously.

That's when he noticed something he had only heard stories about: the Daedalus Bridge! He slowly walked up onto the end of the unfinished bridge. He sat down with his feet dangling off the edge.

'What am I going to do?' he thought. 'I can't tell them! If they find out…'

"What do we have here?" came a voice from behind him, and it was filled with malicious intent.

The boy looked behind him and went wide eyed. There were three men holding metal pipes. But he didn't feel afraid, shockingly. He felt confident and ready to dive into the water to escape if needed.

"Seems like a little boy a bit too far from home," the second man stated.

"You know you have to pay a toll to be here, right, kid?" the third guy told the boy. "Hand over your cards, now."

However, the boy stood up and stepped back a bit so his heel was dangling off the edge, his hand over his deck holster protectively.

"Kid, you've got nowhere to go. Just hand them over," the first guy ordered.

That's when the boy's chest glowed with a blue like hue, shocking the offenders. The boy then heard a voice call in his mind, "Jump, Yusei! I'll protect you and the cards."

"R-Right…" the boy, Yusei, agreed also telepathically. Before the three men could do anything, he jumped off the bridge, nose diving towards the water.

As he fell, a blue light wrapped around him in a glowing, clear cocoon of light. He entered the water, staying dry, and zipped through the water as fast as lightning.

When he reached the Satellite beach near Martha's refuge, he was brought into the air by the cocoon and gently placed on the sands by it. As soon as his feet hit the ground, the light released and disappeared.

"Thank you, spirit egg," Yusei whispered.

"We need to keep me a secret from everyone. For your safety as well as mine," it told him.

"I understand," Yusei agreed.

"Let's get back home. Just say you've been walking around the forest," it suggested. Yusei gave a small nod and hurried back.
