This story was kicked off by Sabaku no Natsuo, a very good Tsubasa writer. She was doing a series of prompts, and an idea hit me for a prompt entitle "mirror", and she inspired me to write it myself.
This plot line may seem a bit random, but it's more of a moment in time than a story. So it's intentional. And it's short.
Contains spoilers up to Clow. Set pre-Lecourt.
He stood in a dark cavern in a foreign world with only a shining mirror before him. There was nothing he dreaded in that particular instant more than that particular mirror. He could feel its magic power, could sense exactly what it's purpose was, and he knew they couldn't leave this world until he went before it, as all the others had.
A mirror to show one's flaws.
For all the world to see.
There was nothing he dreaded more.
Sakura had gone first. The mirror showed a petit, chestnut-haired little girl with empty green eyes that held no soul. Syaoran muttered something about having no memories to comfort the girl, but Fai knew otherwise. The girl had no soul. She was a clone. But they didn't know. They weren't supposed to. So he had maintained his façade.
Syaoran went next, ever the brave one. The mirror showed a lightless black hole where his right eye should have been. Kurogane shrugged it off as the boy's blindness. But the boy, too, was a clone.
It seemed this mirror had a sense of humor.
Kurogane was the logical choice to go next. He stood in front of that contraption, proud as a peacock, uncaring that anyone saw his flaws. The mirror reflected him with his sword broken and bloodstained, and his hands tied with a butterfly charm. Poor Kuro-chi was so puzzled at the last bit, but it was obvious he was the Witch's pawn, even if he didn't see it.
But then there was no one left.
No one but Fai.
He hesitated.
He took a step forward.
Kuro-puu made some impatient remark he couldn't remember.
Suddenly he was there, staring into the depths of that horrible thing that threatened to lay him bare for the world to see.
At first it showed nothing at all.
Then an image of himself started to appear.
But it was all wrong! Those cerulean eyes were not his, the waxy blonde locks were not his, the long fingers, the face, everything about him was wrong!!
Then something he would never forget.
"Fai-san, why does the mirror only show you?
Then he lost it.
The mirror lay in pieces back in that dark, deep world, with no way out.
No one spoke of that world.
Ever.
Yes, I know it's very short. But it's supposed to be that way. I hope someone understands that last bit. .
