At Midnight
Au- This is a very short fic I wrote very quickly. It's an implied Nearly Headless Nick x Luna Lovegood story. I challenge anyone out there to write more about strange couples.
It was twelve o'clock when Nearly Headless Nick passed the corridor. He was on his way to get some fresh air.
Behind him he could hear the footsteps of professor Dumbledore with whom he'd just been talking.
When he looked in front of him again he realized he had just collided with one of the most strangest students Hogwarts had ever known. The blonde mass of hair moved apologetic as she looked up at him, and her bright silvery grey eyes gazed at him. She would never blink, would she?
"I'm sorry, Nearly Headless Nick." Her dreamy voice replied as she nervously bit her bottom lip.
"It's all right, Luna." Nick looked down at the blonde Ravenclaw girl. "You didn't hurt me." She smiled faintly at that.
"Are you going to report me?" She was very well aware that she was caught breaking the rules. She should have been in bed. But Nick laughed hoarsely at the back of his throat. The idea of punishing loony Luna Lovegood seemed to appall him.
"No, Luna. I won't do that." He shook his head firmly and quickly reached up with both his hands so it wouldn't fall off. He murmured in a low voice "I should be careful with my head." Luna caught his words nonetheless and started giggling in her dreamy voice. He looked at her with a glint of anger in his eyes. The matter of his head was a delicate one. But when he spotted the girl's dreamy smile and eyes he felt that he couldn't be angry at her and he smiled as well.
"You're kind." Luna's dreamy smile started to enchant him and he shrugged very carefully now.
"You're a student who deserves kindness." The small smile on his face turned into a cheeky one.
"No one ever thought that way before." Luna interrupted him before he could tell her why she would deserve kindness. "No one ever thought to be kind to me before." He chuckled, but her words actually broke his heart – if only he'd still have one.
"Of course they have. They just haven't taken the time yet to tell you. I'm sure one day someone will appear who will show you kindness."
Her watery silvery grey eyes looked intensely at him, a haunting gaze he wouldn't forget soon. "Thank you." Nearly Headless Nick reached out his hand to her, but she had darted around him and towards the Ravenclaw common room.
"You're welcome." He whispered.
