Story is mine, characters obviously aren't.
Warning: Angst, Yaoi/Slash, potential OOC as its been a long time since the anime, and other warnings probably to come.

Note: This is an idea I started years ago but felt the need to start it up again. It still has the same idea, just taking it in a slightly different direction. Hope you enjoy!
The Boundary
Chapter 01 – One for the Money
The constant drip coming from the ceiling was a silent reminder of the state Duo was currently in. Curled in the back corner of a dark moist room; a captured shinigami. Battered, beaten, forced down a peg, reminded of his place in the world.
All he could do was think back to ten years ago. Back to what started his spiral into madness. What decisions he made that lead him into the predicament he was in now.
The biggest that came to mind laying cold, curling in on himself, was how light his head was. Even now ten years later he still expected the feel of his braid along his back. But no that was Rule One of the Boundary 'No Distinguishing Traits.' That meant the braid had to go.
Duo pulled his shaking hands covered in dirt, grime, and blood up to his head and pulled on his hair. His military style, way too short, braid less hair.
Why had he taken the step into this black hole that was currently his life.
Money.
Money was the quickest answer his mind came up for him. The Boundary paid well, but you sold your soul to get it. Money and the need to feel he could do better and prove himself. It seemed stupid and reckless choices now, Duo thought, watching the water drip continuously in front of him. And they were.
He would make it right though, he vowed to. He sat up and had to gasp for air, his injuries all yelling at him at once. The second he got out of here of course, then he would.
Duo felt hope rise in his chest, the first time in years. Everything would work out.
