And so there they all were, in Dean's basement, just sitting around, doing nothing. Neville was fiddling with his Remembrall, and Seamus picking the paint chimps off of an old Barbie doll house. The fan was just whizzing on, keeping them cool on one of the hottest days of the year.
Dean was fiddling with an outdated Rubik's cube, when he suddenly snapped his fingers and said, "I GOT IT!"
"What?" Responded Neville and Seamus in sync, thinking he had solved his Rubik's cube.
"I got what to do! We've been sitting around here for hours, and I finally got what to do-start a band!" Dean looked very proud of himself, but Seamus and Neville were very confused.
"Dean," Seamus finally said. "To start a band, don't we need, well, instruments?"
"Yeah, my stepdad's got a bunch of instruments that he used for his old band. I'm sure he won't mind if we use them."
Dean smiled mischievously, and ran to the storage room to go uncover the instruments. Seamus and Neville looked at each other, shrugged, and went off to join Dean. He pulled off a big white sheet to reveal a full set of drums, a guitar, a bass, and a keyboard.
Neville interjected, "I don't know how to play any of these! I barley know how to play a piano, let alone, well, this!" He pointed at the keyboard, looking distressed.
"Don't worry, Neville, you'll pick it up in no time. Listen, I've already got a plan. I'll play the drums, Seamus will do the guitar or bass, and Neville, you can have the keyboard!" Dean said, overexcited, and quickly got everyone into the proper positions for playing music.
Neville awkwardly fingered the piano, stumbling on simple songs like "Ode to Joy" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb".
Seamus could only manage one chord, and it didn't sound very good.
Dean, despite owning the instruments, couldn't keep a beat for more than three thrashes on the drums. It didn't sound anywhere near a professional band.
"Okay, everyone stop!" shouted Seamus. "This is a complete disaster! We sound like a screaming Augrey!"
"Maybe if we all play in unison," said Dean, "It'll sound better."
Everyone seemed to agree that this was a good idea to try, so they played, listening carefully to each other's sounds. And surprisingly, Neville didn't mess up on the piano, Dean kept a steady beat, and Seamus could get another two chords in, flawlessly. When they stopped playing, all of them thought they sounded a lot better than last time.
"Oh my Godric!"
"We sounded like The Weird Sisters!"
"I didn't mess up!"
They discussed how great they were when they played together, and got into more serious matters, like the name of their band. They eventually decided on the 'Monotone Gnomes of Ireland and Doom'.
They went on to become well known throughout the Wizarding World, although they broke up and went on to different careers, including Seamus as a famous world singer.
