A/N: Technically it's just a blink and you'll miss it mention of Leek but honestly I couldn't think of anything else that would fit! Anyway thank you to the wonderful fredbassett and fififolle for being my amazing beta readers and thank you to telperion_15 for letting me borrow Danny.
Becker was used to guys paying Sarah a lot of attention. She was pretty, smart and strong-minded, so it was to be expected. However he couldn't help feeling a little bit annoyed when Nathan Anderson, the new scientist that Lester had seconded from another government project for a few weeks, took a shine to her. For the last week Becker had watched Nathan hang around Sarah's desk in the ARC control room and carry her things. And the way he always seemed to greet Sarah with a hug irritated him to the point where Danny had finally snapped and had told him to talk to Sarah if he was so jealous.
"I'm not jealous, I'm just being protective, that's our job after all, to protect the team, especially after what happened with Leek," he had replied.
Danny had looked at him unconvinced but hadn't said anything else.
Becker got his opportunity when Sarah walked into the break room while he was in there getting a cup of tea.
"So how are things going?" he asked casually.
"Nathan's great, I'm learning a lot from him," Sarah replied as she poured hot water into her cup. "He's got a lovely personality," she added. "He's funny, sweet, caring."
'I'm not jealous, I'm just protective,' Becker told himself again.
"There's one thing I don't like about him though," Sarah continued.
"Which is?" he asked, trying not to sound too hopeful.
"He keeps calling me babe." She wrinkled her nose like it was a bad word.
"I didn't know you were such a big feminist," he stated.
"Oh I'm not. If a guy wants to carry my things, and open doors for me I don't mind, it's just the word babe⦠it makes me think of the pig."
"Pig?"
"The one that thought it was a sheepdog. It's quite an old film now."
"I could talk to Nathan about it if you want," Becker offered.
"Nah, I only have to put up with it for another week," Sarah said, throwing away her used tea bag. She frowned. "Why did you want to know anyway?"
"Just curious," he replied evasively.
"Well just so we're clear, I'm not interested in him as more than a colleague, I've never been that interested in pretty boys."
"Really," he said, trying to keep the relief out of his voice.
Sarah smiled at him. "Yep, I'm just keeping him sweet so we learn everything we can from him."
Nathan walked past the break room. "I'm going to start setting up that experiment now, babe, you coming?" he called as he passed by.
"Right behind you," Sarah responded, picking up her cup of tea. As she reached the door she turned back to Becker. "Oh and in the interests of curiosity, I don't think you're pretty, I think you're handsome. It actually rates a lot higher with me," she grinned at him and left.
Becker knew it shouldn't have made him feel better, but it did.
