Summary: AU Post series 3 Becker prepares to go in search of Abby, Connor and Danny

Sarah stormed into the armoury. "You're insane," she stated.

Becker, who had been getting ready to head out, glanced at the few men who were also in the room and indicated that they should leave.

"That's what the voices tell me."

"Is that supposed to be funny?"

"Isn't it your day off?" He countered.

"Don't change the subject." Sarah crossed her arms and glared at him. "Were you even going to tell me?"

Becker fought the urge to snap at her. It had been three days since Danny, Connor and Abby had disappeared and they were all tired and temperamental.

"I was going to tell you, after we got back and no, you're not coming with me," he stated anticipating what she was going to say next, "it's a recon mission – no civilians."

"I have a right to find out what happened to them. I'm part of the team too."

"And it's my job to protect the remaining member," he asserted, "do you even know what's on the other side? Giant predators and giant insects - which means you stay on this side of the anomaly where it's safe." He felt slightly guilty for playing the giant insect card but he hoped it would make her see sense. She looked away and shook her head.

"I can't just wait around doing nothing." He put his hand on her shoulder and she looked up at him.

"You're not – you need to stay here in case another anomaly opens and Danny, Abby and Connor walk through it." Sarah raised an eyebrow sceptically. "It's happened before to Professor Cutter and Stephen," Becker explained, remembering what Lester had told him, "they were on the other side of an anomaly when it closed but they managed to come through a different one, the others might do the same and the first thing they'll want to see is a friendly face."

"Fine, just be careful."

"I will," he said letting go of her shoulder. A voice crackled to life through his earpiece.

"Sir, we're ready to go."

"I'll be right there." He turned to go then looked over his shoulder at Sarah and saw worry in her eyes.

"I'm coming back," he reassured her, she nodded her head.

"Good luck."

'We don't need luck, what we need is a miracle,' Becker thought remembering how close he had come to dying the last time he had gone through the future anomaly but he didn't say voice his thoughts, instead he gave her a half-smile and walked out the door.
