Why Have You Forsaken Me?
Neo had never believed it when people said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die. He had never believed it and he still didn't even in the last brief moments of life. Most of his life had only been a dream anyway and he wasn't even sure about the rest of it in Zion.
"Help us defend ourselves against the machines," they had pleaded with him. "Lead us to victory. Return us to salvation." He had listened to the cries of the sick and dying asking blindly for his help. He had healed their sick and fed their starving. They had treated him like a god calling him "Master" and "Savior".
And now as he lay, the life slowly draining out of him, they jeered him, telling him that he was nothing but a liar and con man.
The night before he had warned them of this outcome. They had feasted together and he had told him what he knew was the truth, that on the following morning, his loyalist followers would deny him. "Foolishness Master!" they had all stated as the broke bread and drank with him. "We would never deny you for you will lead us to the way of righteousness. You will help us defeat the machines and rise against our foe. Master we would never leave you." And at those words Neo sighed and told them once again that before the entire city of Zion had woken, they would desert him.
When the evening had concluded, he had left a following of drunks, half of whom were laughing and the other half who happened to be passed out, lightly dozing. He chased away his daemons as he walked down the desolate streets of Zion waiting for the morning and contemplating what was to come. He knew not where he was going but the spirit in his feet pulled him ever closer to his place of residence.
"I have shown them restitute," he whispered to the darkness in a voice that was barely audible. "I do not know what they want of me. They are not mine to lead and never were. Ease my burden and take this task from me."
"We all have our crosses we must bear, my love," whispered Trinity at his side. Her eyes glistened with brimming tears that glittered like diamonds in the darkness. A sweatshirt hung loosely from her thin frame and her hands were warm in his.
"I chose you," Neo whispered still and he pulled her close to him and wrapped his arms around her waist. She ran her fingers through his hair and kissed him lightly, pulling away just as his tongue touched hers.
She forced a smile and told him, her voice only faltering once, "I know but this is your crucifix. Not mine." And at that, he kissed her softly and gently for one last time before she left him once again in the consuming darkness.
And on this morning his followers no longer knew him. They denied him thrice as he had said and he walked willingly to whatever punishment awaited him.
"Father, why have you forsaken me?" he shouted.
As the pain melted into sweetness in these last moments of life, he looked out into the crowd and upon seeing Trinity, forced a smile. And he closed his eyes knowing that this was not the last time.
The End.
Yeah I know not as great as I thought it would be but I don't know much about the story of Jesus (which is what the Matrix is. I mean, the name Trinity in itself is such a dead giveaway.) Give me feedback please whether you agree with me or not as this is how it will end. Since Neo dies of them, Zion will be saved even though he did not help them fight against the machines, etc. Thanks a bunch.
