I Found You
"You're the voice I hear inside my head, the reason that I'm singing, I need to find you," sang Mitchie, as she threw her clothes into the small bag she had with her. Sighing, she continued packing, feeling incredibly nostalgic to be leaving the place where she had been so happy for the last couple of weeks. "I gotta find you; you're the missing piece I need, the song inside of me."
Holding back another sigh, she jammed yet another shirt into the already full bag. Tess was right, she thought. I did bring a small bag. She continued humming songs she'd learned at camp while she packed, feeling more and more reflective. She'd already exchanged e-mail addresses and phone numbers with all of her friends; hopefully, she'd see them next summer at camp. For now, it was back to her boring, old life at home, instead of all the excitement she'd gone through during her time at Camp Rock. At least she now knew that Caitlyn lived close enough to visit regularly, and Peggy and Ella said they'd keep in touch. As for Shane, she didn't know, because after the Final Jam he'd been swamped by reporters hungry for a story, and she hadn't seen him since except for the serenade. Thinking about that still made her feel all funny inside.
"Knock, knock." She looked towards the door, where she saw Shane, leaning against the door and smiling at her.
"Hey, you." Mitchie smiled at him then looked away shyly, wondering how she was still so timid after having performed in front of everyone.
"I…," he started saying something, and then stopped abruptly. "I just wanted to stop by before I left… To say goodbye and stuff."
"Well, bye, I guess." she said, avoiding his gaze.
"Yeah," he said, sounding doubtful. "I guess"
"Look, I…" they said in unison. "You first," said Shane.
"Okay, I… I just wanted to tell you what a great time I had this summer with you, and I hope we don't lose touch this year." Shane assured her they were going to stay in touch until camp next year; after all, Connect 3 didn't have any tours scheduled, so he wouldn't be going very far. "What did you want to tell me?" she asked, smiling as she stuffed more clothes into her bag.
"What I wanted to say was…" As he spoke, Shane moved across the room. He grabbed her hands, and continued: "I found you."
With this, he leaned down and kissed her softly on the forehead. Mitchie smiled, looked at him, and kissed him on the lips.
Maybe it won't be so hard to stay in touch, she thought, as Shane's arms snaked around her waist. She smiled into the kiss, causing Shane to break apart.
"What?" he asked, kissing her neck lightly. She put her hands on his face, making him look at her.
"Nothing," she said, and kissed him again.
