Prologue: If Ryuuken hadn't stop believing in the Quincies, then maybe none of this would have happened. Maybe he wouldn't have had to suffer. Maybe it all would have been different.

A retelling of the lives of the three Ishida men, through drabbles, be them serious, random or plain crack.

"Father! Father, look what I did!" The young boy grabbed his father's hand and dragged him outside, to the small forest near their house. There stood what remained of a tree, its stump slightly charred. The young boy's eyes were brimming with excitement, presumably over what he had just done to the tree.

His father smiled sadly and kneeled down, bringing himself to his son's level. The small, innocent smile faded.

"Father? Father, what's wrong?" Another sigh.

"Promise me…promise me right now…that you won't harm such innocent creations ever again," he murmured, and his son watched, mesmerized, "Promise me that you will heal instead of hurt."

"Father…is it bad to hurt?"

"Yes. It is bad to hurt. No matter if it's a human or an animal or such a beautiful plant like this tree, it is bad to hurt it. I'm counting on you, alright? To make sure that you don't hurt anyone." He gently kissed his son on the forehead.

"Yes Father. I promise." A few tears trickled from the corner of his eye and he rubbed them away. His father smiled.

"Good. Now let's focus on putting that energy to good use. How about it…Ryuuken?"

"Yes Father." Ryuuken smiled, brimming with innocence.

I promise, Otou-san, I will not hurt anymore.

That was probably when he decided to become a doctor.
