Caitlyn never let this happen to her. She never let her guard down. She was always on the watch. So how is it she ended up like this? Getting together with a boy, then messing it up? Now she was miserable, and he was miserable, and life sucked. It all sucked.
Of course, Mitchie and Shane were being all cutesy and lovey-dovey, and it really felt like they were just rubbing it in. Well, maybe that was an exaggeration. They wouldn't do that.
But man, things were messed up. And worse of all, no matter how hard she tried to avoid him, he was always there. They had less than a week left at camp, though. After that, she'd just be able to forget him, right?
At least, that's what she thought. But that one day, the last day of camp, she realized how wrong she was.
The day was cloudy and sort of… sad, as if it knew it was the last day. She was at the dock, just thinking about stuff, when she heard steps behind her. She didn't bother to turn around. She was too busy remembering the kiss. And what a kiss that was. It had been completely spontaneous, out of the blue. After Final Jam, she'd gone over to him, thinking she was just going to say hi, when he hugged her. And then he kissed her, just like that.
She was surprised. Shocked. She pulled away; not quite believing what happened, just turned around and left. She just left him there, with no explanation. Since then, things had been a mess. What could she do?
"Oh. It's you," she heard. Turning around slowly, she came to see who was there. It was him. God, he was cute. Curly brown hair and those adorable eyes. And that smile! Not that he was smiling now, though.
She didn't say anything; somehow, she didn't feel there were any words that could fit with the moment.
That's when it started, when the rain started falling on them, softly, with a quiet splat-splat-splat on the dock. Something about it was magic, and whatever that was, it made her stand up and walk up to him. He looked confused, yet he didn't go anywhere. She was in a trance, moving automatically.
And that's when she kissed him. Yes, she did it. She just kissed him, wordlessly, with no explanation. Not that any was needed, because when he kissed her back, everything was solved between them. And everything was good again.
