A crisp, cool wind blew through the park, causing the petite young woman to pull her jacket closer to her body.
The sun was just starting to rise over the horizon, but Usagi found herself in the park alone while her trusted guardian and friend, Luna, continued to sleep peacefully back at home. She made her way through the park, to the fountain.
After a few moments standing alone, the wind brought to her a familiar, comforting scent. Usagi said nothing, gazing off into space.
"Koneko-chan, are you alright?"
Usagi looked up as Haruka, who was dressed for her early morning run, placed her hand on her shoulder. She shook her head, "I don't know."
Haruka could see the confusion in her princess's eyes. "Is there anything I can do to help?" she asked.
"I have a wonderful fiancé, the greatest friends a girl could ask for, and a future daughter who will grow to be an intelligent, kind-hearted woman. I have the fairy tale. I should be happy."
"You're not?"
"When Mamoru and I first started dating, being with him made me feel safe and warm. Now...now, I feel cold and alone." Usagi shook her head quickly, silent tears sliding down her cheeks, "No matter what I do, I can't make it go away!"
Haruka pulled her princess into her arms, hugging her tightly.
Usagi clung to Haruka, her body shaking as she sobbed. Eventually, her tears slowed and her body stopped shaking.
"Usagi," Haruka said, causing Usagi to look up at her. Haruka gently wiped the remaining tears from Usagi's face and then leaned down and gently pressed her lips against hers.
And for the first time in a long time, Usagi felt safe, warm, and loved.
