Not An Option

~*~*~*~
A normal life is a luxury we can never afford to have.
We have to keep moving.
Or we die.
Tinga knew this, but she didn't listen and let her heart rule cloud her
judgment. It left her vulnerable and careless. She thought she could
have a *normal* life with a husband and a kid. Did she really think she
could hide her domestic bliss from Lydecker for long? That he wouldn't
use them to get her back to Manticore and be reprogrammed like Brin was?
And that is exactly what happened. I warned her. Just like I warned Max.
But they didn't listen to reason. They never will, so I left. I left
with every intention on getting as far away from here as possible.
But I didn't.
I couldn't.
Our bond is stronger than any sibling by blood. I couldn't leave knowing
that Lydecker wouldn't keep his end of the bargain and double cross them.
I was right.
I hated being right.
Max looked at me with such hatred when I told her that "Family wasn't an
option." She doesn't think I understand what Tinga's going through.
If only she knew.
I know how it feels to be in love. I also know how it feels to realize
that you can't hide what you are and make the agonizing decision to leave
in order to protect the one you love.
A family can never be an option.
Not for me, not for any of us.
