So you probably hear a bunch of BS about how this is my first fanfic and yadda yadda yadda, but this is my first and I would prefer for you guys who read this to give me scathing reviews, tell me how to improve my writing and storytelling. This is supposed to be a oneshot, if I get enough reviews or something asking for more I'll do more, just don't badger me about updating more than once a week, not going to happen.

DISCLAMER: not Scott(though I wish I was)

By my Side

All Deryn remembered was that the Leviathan had gone down. In a hail of bullets. She remembered rushing to the engine pods to check on Alek, to go down with him, when the deck tilted and she slid down. Past the engine pods she sailed, right past a surprisedAlek, who wore a surprised look on his face.

"Deryn!" he lunged towards her but missed. As she slid off the edge of the ship, he tossed a rope after her, hoping she would catch it and stop her descent.

She reached for the rope, it slid between her grip, she was slowing down. She silently thanked Alek for throwing the rope down, when she ran out of rope. She was descending again. Fast. She spun in midair aiming for the English Channel, hoping to come down in a perfect dive.

When she woke everything hurt, her arms, legs and head all had a low throbbing pain, which rose as she made the slightest movement. "Alek" she whispered.

"Right here" he replied calmly, if only a little shaky.

She spun her head to look at him. A mistake only until she saw him. "How did you…"

"The captain brought the ship down relatively safely." Alek said

"Relatively?" She asked.

"Yes, many people died." He said eyes watering "including Volger.

"What? The barking wildcount? I'd always thought he would've died of a heart attack when he found out about you and me, especially after what you did to the Pope's letter." As soon as she said it she immediately regretted it.

Alek gently smiled at her and aid "Aye, me to… Instead it was the barking Germans.

She realized something all of a sudden. "They know, don't they?"

"Aye, they know. They're debating what to do with you. But no matter what, I'll whatever it takes to keep you by me side.
