"Hey, Twi."
Twilight Sparkle looked up from her reading to see Applejack standing in front of her. Twilight was stretched onto her stomach on the grass, studying different types of magical plants.
"Hi, Applejack," she said to her friend.
"Watcha doin' there?"
"Well, I'm learning about types of flowers whose perfume can make certain types of spells stronger. Spike's collecting them for me."
"Daisies, lilies, bluebells, and pink roses have magical perfume?" Applejack said, sounding surprised as she looked past Twilight.
"What? No." Twilight Sparkle turned around and saw that instead of picking Singing Symphonias (for music spells), he was gathering a bouquet of beautiful flowers. Beautiful, but not magical.
"More lilies," he muttered to himself, sticking his head into another bush. When he emerged, he found out that he had bothered a very irritable bee. "So sorry, Mr. Honeybee," he said, smiling guiltily.
"Spike!" Twilight shouted, galloping up to him. "What in the name of the Mare in the Moon are you doing? You're supposed to be getting Singing Symphonias!"
"Sorry, Twilight," the dragon said sheepishly. "Hey, do you think Rarity would like some morning glories in this bouquet?"
"Forget Rarity!" she groaned in frustration. "I need your help!"
But Spike was already headed to Rarity's boutique.
OoOoO
"Rarity?" Spike called, sticking his head in the door. Although the white and violet pony was nowhere to be found, he heard her voice coming from the back room. Her voice and another, actually.
"Sweetie Belle, be a dear and grab that ribbon, would you?" Rarity asked.
"Yes, Rarity," the foal's voice said. "Maybe making dresses are my special talent, and then I can get my cutie mark."
"Oh, really, darling, you mustn't get caught up in that cutie mark business again! You'll get it when you get it!"
"But—"
"No buts. Now, get three sapphires, please."
"Okay."
Spike was about to go into the back room, too, when Scootaloo and Apple Bloom came crashing through the door, knocking over the clothing displays in the window.
"Sweetie Belle!" Apple Bloom called loudly. "Rainbow Dash is gonna take us white-water raftin'!"
"Hurry up so we can go!" Scootaloo added impatiently.
Rarity and Sweetie Belle came into the main room. "Go have fun with your friends," Rarity said to her younger sister, glancing at the mess the other foals had made.
Sweetie Belle smiled and trotted out the door with the other two Crusaders.
"Um, Miss Rarity," the dragon began.
"Oh, hello, Spike," she said, beginning to fix her display. "How may I help you? Do you need information for Twilight Sparkle? Fancy suit? Gems? If it's that last one, I can't help you because I am fresh out."
"Um, actually, Rarity, I don't need something from you. I have something for you."
She looked up from where she was putting a jeweled satin saddle back on a shelf. "You do?"
"Here you go," Spike said, holding out the bouquet.
Rarity was clearly surprised by the gift, but once she got over it, she smiled and said, "Oh, Spike, darling, they're lovely! What made you think of them?"
"Well, I know you like everything that's pretty and I was walking by some flowers and I thought 'Rarity would like these' and—"
"Thank you so much, Spike! These will look lovely in my shop! Oh, now, where did I put that vase…?"
She trotted off to the back room. Spike smiled and sighed happily.
"Someday, Rarity."
