Author's Notes:

So, I need to work on writing more (at all) and the plots that pop up in my head are usually long and terribly detailed, so I thought that I would write a series of drabbles featuring The Doctor, Rose and Jack, based upon the list of quotes in the intermissions in Robert Heinlein's Time Enough for Love. My theory is that any writing is better than no writing. Here is the first. This is un-betaed. Criticism would be appreciated.

"Blegh! That's awful! I thought you said this stuff was good, Jack!" Rose's face showed her companions exactly what she thought of the blue, and now slightly less full, drink in front of her. "In fact, I think the word exquisite was used! It tastes like an old sock with a side of -" Rose pauses, and takes a moment to consider the problem carefully. "Mushroom. Yuck."

"That's because it is Chadukori Brandy Rose." Jack's eyes are alight with amusement, and she knows she is not getting something obvious to a well-educated time traveler.

"And it's supposed to taste like that?"

"Only if you don't store it at around ten degrees." Of course, the Doctor knows about this, and feels the need to point out how little she knows about the universe's brandy. Moreover, he has to look smug while doing it.

Rose frowns. "Well, that would have been a bit more helpful to know before I stuck it in my cupboard."

"You've got a nine hundred year old Time Lord at your disposal, all you had to do was ask."

"I personally understand the care and handling of more things than you'd probably care to know." Jack winks, and takes a slightly longer than necessary glance at the Doctor, then looks significantly back to her. "I find the care involved in keeping something at it full potential makes the final enjoyment so much better, don't you?"
