REMEMBER

You've done your

Your duties;

It's your turn to rest.

You lie there,

In that dark land,

On that ashy ground.

The earth explodes all

The sky gets ever darker

Your friend, your strength, your Brother lies beside you.

"Remember," he

"Remember the thick green grass."

Your eyes close. You remember.

"Remember."

"Remember the laughter and songs."

You smile. You remember.

"Remember."

"Brother, remember the Eagles."

Your smiles fades. You remember.

The talons, wicked and sharp

Destroying the enemy with ease.

The cries, loud and piercing

Simultaneously bringing fear and hope.

The wings, large and powerful

Stirring up the ash and dust as they beat.

"They're here, Brother," he whispers

"They're here. We made it."

Your eyes open. Shadows surround.

Your head dangles as you're lifted,

Carefully, oh so carefully, in those

The wings beat, the cry shatters the dark.

"Remember," you hear it

"Remember, Brother. No man left behind."
