I'm sitting in a hovercraft flying to the Capitol. President Coin gave me special permission to join the medics from thirteen, and I'm so excited! I'm going into the front lines to help the wounded. Normally I would be too young, but I think Coin really sees my potential. I do have a more experience than a lot of other kids my age, but I'm just glad to have a chance. I really hope I'll be able to become a doctor. Maybe if I do a really good job today, I'll impress them and they'll let me start my training early.

As I wait for the hovercraft to reach the Capitol, I think about Katniss. I can't believe she's dead. I just wish I could have had more time with her. She never really came back from her first games, and once the rebellion started, I hardly ever got to see her anymore. Not after she became the Mockingjay. But I have to admit, I'm very proud of everything she did. Although I do wish she had of talked to me more about what was going on. I'm not a little girl anymore, and besides, I'm good at keeping secrets.

As the hovercraft lands, I glance around at the other medics around me, dressed in their white uniforms. Dressed just like me, although mine fits a little more loosely than it should. They all look calm and focused. I try to mimic their expressions, even though inside I'm freaking out. Be like Katniss, I think to myself. She had perfected the art of masking her emotions. Deep breaths. I'll do fine.

The hovercraft lands just outside the city circle. As we all climb out, I hear an explosion and see smoke rising from the circle. Without a word, everyone runs towards the source of the explosion. What I see if horrifying! Everywhere I look, I see children. Wounded, dying and terrified. All of my earlier panic vanishes, and I adopt the calmness of my mother. I rush right into the thick of things.

The children seem flustered. I glance around, and see the others rushing to the children with the worst injuries. As I scan the area, I spot a badly wounded child crying out, begging for help. I rush toward her as fast as I can, determined to save her. Suddenly, I hear screaming behind me. I glance behind me, and that's when I see her. It's Katniss, I'm sure of it. She's here! Alive! But she looks worried, frantic even. I'm so confused. I start to call out her name, when the world lights up.
