*What if it has something to do with Cassandra's vision? What if it's like the big button on a bomb and that's what happens, I kill everybody?* Clark pulled his hand away from the cave wall. *But what if it tells me who I am and where I'm from? If I'm not alone? Maybe it would even communicate with my home world? Oh, just get it over with!* He put the octagonal disk in the carved crevice in the cave wall and just as he added, *What's the worst that could happen?* a beam came from the wall, transfixing him as his mind filled with strange symbols and words, which he realized he understood.
When the beam stopped as suddenly as it had begin, Clark caught himself before he hit the ground. Straightening up, he smiled. He now understood that he was the last son of a great civilization, advanced beyond anything Earth could even imagine. He now understood his destiny. His smile turned predatory as he repeated to himself the final sentences that had entered his mind. "You were designed to survive. Until you reached maturity, you would be driven to follow their rules and laws. Now, Kal-El of Krypton, you will be their giver of rules and laws."
It was a whole wide world to conquer. He was the one being in Earth's history who would make that literally true.

This ficlet popped into my head while I was taking the train this morning. Last time I said that I thought a brief mind-picture was a stand-alone I ended up with Truth, Justice, and the American Way, so I'm not making *any* predictions.
