For the first time since they met, she doesn't smile when he approaches her. She ducks her head away and she wants to disappear and hopes, prays that Gray will not see her. What will she tell him? God doesn't like her, Juvia knew that from a very young age but for once she hopes that god will take pity on her and send Gray to check on Natsu first or even Lucy or someone, anyone. She hopes Gray will go to anyone but her. God does not take pity on Juvia.
Gray sits down on the rock next to her. He doesn't say anything, just tilts his head up and stares at the sky. She doesn't dare to look up at him. She doesn't dare speak to him. She doesn't dare move. Gray does not shed a tear but he is crying and Juvia tries her best to muffle her own sobs.
It could be seconds, hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades before he speaks.
"It wasn't your fault." Juvia sobs louder and she is pulled into his arms and she is crying into his chest.
"I'm sorry. I'm-I'm sorry." She repeats. "I'm so-so sorry, Gray-sama."
"It was not your fault, Juvia, it wasn't."
He does not tell her to stop crying and she does not try to forgive herself. For they are in mourning, right now because Gray mourns for his father, for whom he has not shed a tear for since long and Juvia cries for a man, she did not get to love and she cries for the one she loves more than herself.
They will pick up the pieces and put each other back together and build Silver a proper grave. They will pick up their old routine once again but right, holding each other is enough.
