Long Road Out Of Eden
Okay, inspired by... The Eagles. Who obviously don't belong to me. CSI doesn't either. Hope you like!!! Reviews are loved.
Why did a murderer have to plan his killing spree today, of all days? Just... why? Nick Stokes was beginning to think someone had it out for him. He'd been waiting for this day for more than twenty years. It was the one day he had begged to have off. Hell, he'd traded vacation time for this!
But, swapping shifts did nothing to deter the serial killer on the loose in the city. He'd been called in early last night and they hadn't caught a break yet. The body count was already at seven, in as little as 48 hours.
The new Eagles CD would have to wait, it seemed. Never mind the fact that the famous band had not released a new album in 28 years.
The Texan was half tempted to stop off at Walmart and pick it up, but he couldn't do that with evidence from their latest crime scene in his car. He drove back to the lab in a mournful silence.
"Hey, Greggo." He spotted the other man in the hallway, going the opposite direction as he brought in teh last of his newly collected evidence, he offered a smile. "You headin' out?"
An exhausted shrug was his reply. "Not yet. Still have like… ten reports to finish filling out. Just need some air."
Nick nodded, having expected as much. "You should catch a nap in the break room. You look dead on your feet." He squeezed his friend's shoulder before continuing into one of the layout rooms.
He didn't see Greg again the entire time he was at the lab. Two hours later, when he got called to another crime scene, he logged the evidence he still had out and prepared to start the Eagle-less drive to the new scene. Only, when he turned the ignition over, the radio came on. Which wasn't right, because he hadn't had it on earlier.
Then he realized what was playing.
The new Eagles CD.
"What…?"
He lifted the compartment inbetween the driver and passengers' seat to find the album sitting there. With a note attached.
Nick,
Know you were looking forward to this. Enjoy!
-G.
He pulled out his cell phone and hit the speed dial button for Greg.
"You found it, then?" Came the amused voice of his lover. At another scene, Nick guessed.
"You have no idea how much I love you right now." Nick grinned into the receiver, already nodding along to 'How Long,' one of the main songs used to advertise the new release. Nick was especially fond of the 'America's greatest band' commercial.
"Oh, I can think of a few ways you can show me." He could practically hear Greg's devilish smirk.
"I'll be sure to do that." He laughed. "See ya soon."
"Not soon enough. See ya." Greg replied before the call was ended.
Nick sung along with the album for the rest of the night.
