Scar

Gray was scarred.

He had many lines crossing his skin, yes.

That's not what we're talking about though.

His heart was a mutilated mass, pitted and gouged everywhere, not one centimeter left untouched.

Of course this was all due to one person.

Lucy Heartfilia.

Gray had fallen for her, and nothing could have hurt him more.

Because every time she shared a romantic moment with Natsu, it was a long jagged gash on his soul.

Every time Loke flirted with her it was a stab in the chest.

And every time she was so glad she had "nakama like him" his heart broke.

Gray knew that he had no hope of getting her.

Every guy in the world was after her.

And all of them were better than him.

Scratch that. He was better than all of those guys.

Hibiki was just looking for any female partner.

Loke and Taurus were spirits.

Sting and Rogue were a sadistic, superior-acting morons.

And don't even get him started on how much better he was than Natsu.

But none of those guys had stripping problems.

And only Natsu destroyed more than he did.

Gary's feelings were so twisted he couldn't decide if he deserved Lucy or he didn't.

All he knew was that he wanted her.

A lot.

And as Lucy hugged Natsu for the millionth time Gray bit his lip and refused to let the tears fall.

Because there was no way he would cry over Lucy.

He made sure that she didn't see just how much he was hurting.

He kept up his cold bad boy appearance. He made sure he behaved as he had before Lucy came to the guild.

Sure he dropped hints. Only a ninny wouldn't have figured it out by now.

Mira had it.

And Juvia knew what was up.

But Lucy was clueless.

And that was the deepest gash given to his heart.

Because after whatever happened that made him feel like he wanted to die, all it took was one smile from Lucy.

And he would heal.

One kind word, one wink, or even the incredibly rare hug, and Gray's heart stopped bleeding.

But it was still covered with the marks of the past hurts.

And he could survive for a while on her smiles, but one day something would happen.

Maybe she would actually start dating one of those terrible guys.

Or smile less at him.

Or Gray would go crazy because he really wanted something more than smiles.

Something would happen, and he would lose himself.

His heart wouldn't stop bleeding.

Gray was scarred.
