Re-encountering Thoughts
There were a few witches in particular that Homura loathed to re-encounter. Most were the forms of Madoka's friends, and as the timelines wore on and she got closer and closer to her goal, Madoka's witch form joined them.
And then there were a few that simply had annoying powers. Like H. with her ability to lay thoughts bare.
It took many timelines before Homura could tame her thoughts enough to risk going close to the witch.
Of course, in most timelines in which she emerged, there was another Magical Girl to swoop in and save the day. If they were lucky, it was Sayaka in her early stages or Mami before she met Madoka. They were the successful ones. Kyouko was hopeless at keeping her thoughts tucked away and Sayaka's grew with experience and time. As for Mami…in many ways, Madoka proved to be a distraction to her.
Madoka was a distraction for Homura as well, but for a different reason.
That reason too was laid bare in front of the witch called H. , and it taunted her: each and every one of those past failures, each time she'd started that month again, each time she met Madoka for the first time again and changed their first meeting…
She stayed away from H. for the most part, nowadays. Unless Madoka was getting swept up in it, and there was no-one to save her.
Because that was why she endured it all. To save Madoka.
