A/N: Written for the PMMM Flash Bingo, #089 – friendship (genre).
Warped Friendship
It started off as friendship, sure, but all those relationships quickly turned into something else.
For Mami, they turned into a distraction. The thought of friends waiting for her, fighting alongside her, made her drunk, made her wispy – and she lost the fight because of it. Her blood splattered the witch's field because of it. Her blood splattered those hearts because of it.
For Sayaka, it turned into resentment. Against Hitomi who'd, though perhaps through no fault of her own, stolen the boy she'd given her soul up for. And against Madoka too, Madoka who still stood on the sidelines and watched the fighting, who could never understand until she took the mantle up herself and yet Sayaka still wished to stop it.
For Homura, it turned into an obsession. Saving Madoka – by the 100th timeline, or even before, she didn't even know Madoka anymore, but still she strove to save her. That was the meaning of her existence, of her power…and maybe of her pride as well. She'd had the time to regret as well and that had also passed. All that was left was that obsession.
Once upon a time, it had been a simple friendship for all of them. And then it warped.
