"Ready Dash?" The blue hedgehog asked his pony friend

The two stood at the painted starting line waiting for the signal to start. After a recent disagreement on the subject of speed, they decided to settle the dispute once and for all with a race. A race to see who fully deserves the title of the 'fastest thing alive'. While they were waiting for Twilight for give the signal to start, the two decided to have a little chat.

"Are you kidding? I was born ready" the cyan pegasus replied "In fact, the doctors say I was flying the minute I was born" she said with confidence, rubbing her hoof against her chest.

"Well..." Sonic started, rubbing his hand on his chest before extending his arm and looking at the back of his hand "I don't mean to brag but...The doctors did say when I was born, they took too long so I ran out of my mother's womb"

Dash raised an eyebrow "And who exactly is your mother?"

Sonic's expression said all as Rainbow soon regretted what she said

"Right, too far. Sorry"

"Okay everypony and every Mobian" They heard from above

The two looked up to see Twilight in the air levitating a green flag and a book with her magic.

"This is the race that shall determine who is the fastest in two universes" Twilight announced loud enough for the others to hear

Rainbow smiled "And it's gonna be me"

"I don't know Dash" Sonic said slyly "I haven't even showed half of my full speed yet"

Rainbow Dash only rolled her eyes at the comment

Twilight opened her book, flipped a few pages, then cleared her throat before speaking

"The rules are simple: The racer who crosses the finish line first shall be declared the winner. Racers must take no short cut of any kind or else he or she will be disqualified. No racer is to do anything that might disrupt the other racer's performance. If any racer is caught doing so he or she will be disqualified. Declari-"

"Common Princess I'm growing a beard down here!" Sonic called up to her

Twilight glared down at Sonic before closing her book and bringing her flag to where all could see it.

"On your mark..."

Rainbow dash fluttered her wings in anticipation. Her hoof pawing the ground, creating a small patch. Sonic tapped the tip of his shoe on the ground before doing a small series of prep bounces.

"Get set"

The two where now in full ready stances. Both ready to speed off like a bullet when the flag went down

"Go!"

In a blink of en eye the two were gone in a blue and multicolored blur. Twilight, who had watched from above, was definitely surprised when she nearly missed the two speedsters head for the goal. And before she could make her guess at who would win, she had to make her way to the finish line to make the win official.

Meanwhile at the finish line, every pony and every mobian that could attend was there. Making it extremely difficult for many to find a seat. Amy Rose and Pinkie pie, being the first ones there, guaranteed themselves a good seat. So while they waited they spent the minutes they had in their own conversation.

"I'm telling you Pinkie Pie" Amy said with a smug look "Rainbow Dash doesn't stand a chance against My Sonic"

Pinkie laughed "Sorry Amy, but Rainbow Dash has to be faster. I mean, can Sonic preform a Sonic Rainboom"

"Can Rainbow dash out speed a tornado, and falling debris", that actually got Pinkie quiet for a moment

"Oh yeah, well can Sonic go fast enough to preform a Double Rainboom and travel into a different dimension"

"That wasn't cannon" Amy reminded

"Neither is this story"

Amy just looked at Pinkie for a moment before continuing "Anyway, while Rainbow Dash is considered to be the fastest. With Sonic it's a guarantee"

Pinkie glared at Amy, who returned an equal glare "Oh yeah"

"Yeah"

"Well then, well just have to see who's right"

"We will then"

"Fine"

"Fine!"

"Wanna split some popcorn"

"I would!"

"Fine!"

Meanwhile Knuckles and Applejack, who worked together to earn some profit, took some time to watch the two go back and fourth

"Does Amy always act this uh...crazy?" Applejack asked

"Sadly yes" Knuckles said simply "And does Pinkie always act this crazy?"

"Actually this is one her more sane moments" Applejack said simply

Knuckles was about to question that statement, but knowing Pinkie easily shrugged it off with a chuckle.

"Well they may both be a little off, but we both know who the one that's right is"

"Sure do" Applejack agreed

"Pinkie", "Amy" They said in unison. When they realized what the other said they glared at each other

"Now yall can't seriously be thinking that Sonic is faster then Rainbow"

" 'Fastest thing Alive'! He has that title for a reason"

"Maybe in his world. But this is Equestria, and Rainbow's gonna win"

"Oh yeah, you wanna bet?" Knuckles challenged getting in the mare's face

Applejack then got right in his in return "I do"

"Fifty bits says Sonic will win"

"And fifty says Rainbow will be the winner"

"You're on"

Applejack pulled back, spat of her hoof, and held it out for Knuckles to shake; but he refused

"Sorry but I just got my gloves cleaned"

Applejack just rolled her eyes. Eyes that soon turned to the finish line when someone yelled "They're coming!"

No one really had much time to look. The second it was shouted the two had already crossed the finish line. Dust filled the air as the two came to a grinding halt a small distance from the finish line. When it finally cleared Rainbow took off into the sky

"Aw yeah! The fastest thing alive is yours truly" she boasted

"Uh Dash?" Sonic called up to his friend

Rainbow smiled smugly as she flew back down to him

"It's okay Sonic. Even though I won, I won't see you as any less then I used to"

"I'm flattered Dash but I was gonna say that I won"

"Yeah right!" Rainbow said flying to eye level "I so crossed the finish line first"

"You must have not seen me then because I obviously crossed it first"

"No way! Right Twilight?!"

Twilight, who finally managed to catch up, took a couple of gasps before clearing her throat

"Sorry what?"

"Tell this hedgehog that I beat him"

"Tell this mare to get her eyes checked"

Twilight scratched her hoof against her chin "I thought this might happen. So I hired some help"

Following her hoof, everyone spotted Featherweight at the finish line with his camera. The colt fluttered over to Twilight and presented her with the still developing photo. Twilight levitated the photo into view for those near her.

Everyone leaned forward in anticipation. Rainbow bit her lip as the picture was about to be shown, while Sonic remained completely calm. Then the picture finally revealed itself, and the ponies jaws dropped. The pictured showed Rainbow and Sonic, and while Rainbow looked like she was really pushing herself, Sonic looked like he hadn't broken a sweat as he smiled and thumbs upped the camera. But what really got everyone's attention was who was ahead. And Sonic was actually ahead by a foot.

Twilight, shocked herself, shook her head before clearing her throat "The winner, and the true fastest thing alive is...Sonic the hedgehog!"

Rainbow Dash's heart, along with her pride, fell.

"I...lost"

At first the only ones who cheered were the ones from Sonic's dimension. But soon almost the whole crowd was cheering. The ones who weren't cheering being Rainbow's friends. And while Pinkie and Applejack were still frozen in shock for their own reasons, Rarity and Fluttershy looked worried for how Rainbow would react

"I lost" Rainbow said again, still not able to process what had just happened

Sonic put his arm around the Pegasus "Sorry Dash, but I tried to warn you. They don't call me the fastest because I lose to others"

Rainbow could only watch, still in shock, as Sonic was soon swarmed by his friends who showered him in congrats and hugs. All mini celebrating his victory
