Elphaba and Fiyero had escaped Oz a few days ago, and they were traveling through the woods, looking for somewhere to go. "You know, sometimes I wish that I hadn't defied gravity, Fiyero." Elphaba said with a sigh. "I mean, look at all the trouble I caused, I sent all of oz into a panic, almost got you killed, and poor Glinda had to tell the people of Oz lies about me, she must have felt horrible!"

"But think of all the animals, if you hadn't defied gravity, they would all be seen and not heard, can you imagine that!?" Fiyero pointed out.

"I guess that's true, but still… you wouldn't be a scarecrow, and that little farm brat wouldn't have taken Nessa's shoes," Elphaba sneered slightly. "And Nessa would probably be alive."

"But at least we get to spend the rest of our lives together." Fiyero smiled and put his arm around Elphaba.

It was getting dark, and Fiyero and Elphaba found a place to sleep for the night. It was just a clearing in the woods where they would wrap themselves in makeshift sleeping bags made of blankets. "Goodnight, Elphaba." said Fiyero.

"Goodnight Fiyero." Elphaba replied. Without even closing her eyes, Elphaba fell into a dream… or so she thought. The next thing she knew, Elphaba was standing in a temple. The temple was fairly small, and it looked like it was underground because there were no windows. The whole place looked mysterious.

In the temple, there were three thrones at the end of a red carpet, as if in a palace. "Hello, is anyone there?" Elphaba said curiously as she looked around place.

"Hello, Elphaba, we have been expecting you." One said. Elphaba whipped her head around to see who was talking. She saw three young women sitting on the thrones.

"How do you know my name, and what do you mean 'you've been expecting me?'" Elphaba asked.

The woman on the middle throne spoke. "We are the three fates, Faith, Hope, and Charity." As she said their names, the fates each stood.

"The three fates? What do you want me for?" Elphaba asked.

"We hear that you wish that you did not defy gravity, we can reverse time, send you back there and let you do it over again." Faith said.

"Oh really? Everything costs something, what do you want?" Elphaba asked.

"Nothing, you will get another chance however, if you try to rescue an animal, you will be brought back to the present, and live out the rest of your life as we planned." Hope explained.

"But, if you planned for this all to happen, why are you giving me another chance?"

"Sometimes, if someone wishes enough for something to have happened in a different way, we make a special exception, and give them another chance to change their actions, however, if they do something to take their original path, in your case helping the animals, they are sent back to their original life." Charity said.

"So, will you take this opportunity?" asked Faith.

"I will! Elphaba said confidently.

"Good luck." The fates said. There was a flash of light, and Elphaba was suddenly in her dorm room at Shiz with Galinda.
