A Question for Gamers
I want to ask you a question related to this story. I will read to you this story, and I'll ask you the question at the end.
A sparkly gem was buried in the ground. One day, a Mario fan came up to the gem. He was a big fan, and was pondering the idea of ever finding a real star bit; like from Super Mario Galaxy. He saw the gem on the ground glittering in the sun. In a burst of excitement, he pulled it up, hoping he had finally found a star bit! He turned the gem over to find it was too large to be a star bit. Frustrated, he threw it back into the ground.
Another day, a Legend of Zelda fan came up and saw the gem glittering on the ground. He was a giant fan of Zelda, and in high hopes, he thought he had found a real rupee! He picked it up to find it was the wrong shape. Disgusted, he threw the gem to the ground.
The next day, a Donkey Kong fan was thinking about how it would be cool if he found a banana coin. He saw the gem glittering on the ground and got ecstatic thinking he had found a real life banana coin! He picked it up, being a huge fan of every thing Donkey Kong. In dismay, it was the wrong color. He threw it to the ground, angry.
The day after, a Sonic fan was running along. He was a diehard fan and wished he might be able to obtain a chaos emerald magically and become invincible like Super Sonic. He noticed the gem on the ground and his eyes opened wide in amazement. He picked it up, thinking he had found a chaos emerald! It was the wrong shape. Upset, he dropped it to the ground.
The day after that, a child who was too poor to own any video games or even TV was skipping along playing with a stick like it was sword. He saw the gem on the ground and picked it up happily then imagined what a gem like this could do. Was it a rare, expensive, jewel that was stolen but accidentally dropped by a gang of thieves? Was it part of a pirate's lost treasure that dropped when his shipped sailed through the grass? Was it a portal to an alien world so far away and he was destined to travel there? Did it belong to a mystic, mighty dragon who had left it there on purpose especially for him? The kid spent the rest of the day happily thinking up stories and worlds to travel to so far away.
Now, I will ask you the question. What do you believe the moral of this story is?

People, please do NOT be offended by this! I am not saying gamers have no imagination! I'm just trying to get the point across that it is easy for gamers to fall into the trap of relying on video game companies to make their imaginary worlds for them. I am a big Sonic fan myself, and I sometimes find myself thinking of nothing else but Sonic. Personally for me, I am a Christian and need to remind myself who am I REALLY worshiping? Video games can sometimes become false idols for us. I'm just saying to keep yourself in check and much as I try really hard to do. (Sometimes it's really not easy. :P)
