Summary: A part of Teddy Lupin has always hated his parents for leaving him, but, now he is a father. And now, he's starting to understand.

Parental

They had decided to fight, and be a part of the war.

His father had first left them, and his mother couldn't stand not knowing his fate … She had joined him. They had left him with his grandmother – left him with a scarce hope of returning.

But, neither of his parents returned. Both of them had succumbed to war. They had fought as valiantly as possible, but, the Death Eaters had claimed their lives.

And with that, they were just gone. Never returning to their hardly few weeks old son…

When Teddy Remus Lupin had been a young child, he had been told that his parents had died in the war. Despite his enquiring mind, his grandmother hadn't revealed too much. And then, he grew up. He was more determined to find out about them. Finally, he got the details… The actual details- his father had left them first, knowing that if he didn't return, at least one of Teddy's parents would be with him. His mother had been a nervous mess from the moment his father had left. She was a fighter … an Auror. Of course, she couldn't just stay at home. Singing Teddy a lullaby, she left him too.

And then, never returned … The war killed them.

Teddy knew he should be proud of his parents. Everyone told him how brave they were, and his Godfather told him that they had gone into the fight for him. They fought so that he, Teddy, could live in a better world. Every time he heard that, Teddy had pretended to be understanding.

But, he never could. Wouldn't his parents being alive be a better world for him? How could they leaving him, be for him?

No, he didn't understand that. And that made him despise them. He loved them, yes … But, he hated them for leaving him.

Why would any parent do that? He always wondered, and never found the answer.

Years passed, he fell in love, and got married. He was successful; he had a loving wife, and an amazing family. But, that question never left him. And, he was sure that it would never.

That thought changed very soon … when Victoire gave birth to a baby girl, and the first time he held her tiny body in his arms, he felt exhilarated. In that moment, it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off from his shoulders. As he held her, he became her protector. And in that very moment, he knew that he would do everything in his power to keep his baby girl safe from any dangers.

And, if it meant going to war and fighting for a better world – he would do it … for his daughter. He would act the way his parents had without a moment's hesitation.

He finally understood them.

He finally got their line of thoughts.

He finally knew that they hadn't really left him.

They had loved him, and they had fought the war for him.

He understood… finally.
