NOTES: Prompt to 'Donna takes Harvey's Bagel and he's okay with it' Spoilers for Season Three interwoven. (Same spoils as 'Suits' fic of mine for comparison.)
She found him out on the sidewalk. It had taken her five minutes to work out that he'd slinked out of the office without telling her.
She'd seen him gradually withdraw as the day had brought on more and more strain; starting with Stephen Huntley being given a personal welcome by a seemingly cordial Jessica and then Mike's transfer to the British counterpart. It was as if a kid had walked in and stolen all of his toys; and Donna hated people touching Harvey's toys more than he did.
He'd been on the edge of his nerve for most of the week, focusing on breaking as many cases and clients as he could in the hope that he'd prove himself as again, the most capable lawyer in the firm; but by Thursday it had started to wear thin and she'd watched a dent forming gradually between his eyebrows and kink show in his tie. Harvey had never been without Jessica's backing in ten years and Donna had become increasingly aware of difference that it was making but she wasn't about to let that get the better of him. In fact, she'd do exactly the opposite.
"Just a Bagel?" She asked, as he watched her over shiny tin foil, standing stationary in a sea of moving bodies.
"What? There's Pastrami in it?" He argued, making a face at her as they began to walk away from the food stand.
"Oh okay. That'll take you through to at least 3.30, then. Good call."
"Donna," He objected, avoiding her glare.
"What are you doing?" She asked, her arms folding stubbornly.
"I'm on lunch?"
"You know what I mean. You need to get your head out of your ass," She huffed, heels clicking on the concrete.
"Excuse me?" He exclaimed, biting down on his Pastrami and Rye.
"Harvey, you're hiding out here." She said; her toned blanching but her posture resolute.
"I don't hide." He argued, his shoulders widening as he challenged her.
"Exactly. Which is why it's all the more obvious when you do. Are you really going to let that guy take everything from you?"
"I'm not letting him take everything. If anything, I'm throwing Mike at him." He said, taking another bite. Before he was able to bite down she'd swiped it from his hand, analysing the remaining half of bagel.
"Harvey, I know you feel guilty for sleeping with his fiancé, but that doesn't mean that you need to bend over. Is there cream cheese in this?" She asked, taking a bite.
"Wow, your pep talks are getting blunt these days. And yes." He answered, watching her take another bite, a moan of satisfaction as she wiped cream cheese off of her lips.
"You know what I mean. Harvey, are you going to hide out here and let that guy have everything you've worked for or are you going to go back in there, and fight?"
"You said you were sick of me fighting for everything at the office."
She frowned at him over shiny foil. "Now is not the time - Harvey, you need to get in the game. God this Bagel is good." She moaned once more.
"And how do you suppose I do that?" He asked, watching her take the last bite.
"How we usually do," She smiled over her shoulder as she binned the remaining foil.
"We?" He looked at her incredulously.
"Yes, we. First we need collateral."
"Then?"
"Then, you have to apologize to Mike. He's your second biggest asset and we need him."
"And my first is?" He asked, eyeing her carefully.
"Don't get cute." She said, pointing the finger. "Get me one of those next time," She ordered, her heels clicking in her wake.
"A 'Please' wouldn't go amiss!" He called out after her.
Harvey shook his head.
She really was a force to be reckoned with.
Could not help myself. Updates coming soon.
