I can't tell you much about before the fall. The events leading up to it, to my recollection, aren't very clear and the fall itself was very bright and quick, the wind rushing through my hair, my eyes tearing up, and, of course, the inevitable crash into the ocean. I came up, sputtering, treading water. Everything ached. And to make it worse, I had soaked (what seemed to be) my only set of clothes. But those matters were trivial as the sea got angry at my arrival, heaving and swelling. The sky quickly grew dark and rain fell. Lightning tore the sky, with the thunder, luckily, following a while after. I must get to land if I'm to survive. I don't know what's worse. Being electrocuted or drowning. The latter, I decided. I treaded up a large swell in the water, gaining altitude to peer at my dim and dismal surroundings. There! Hope! Light. And where there was light, there was civilization. Or wildfire, but I'm willing to take the risk. I poured all my strength into swimming toward that light, kicking off my shoes in the process. A large wave marked the beginning of a set. And as scared as I was of the water, this meant I was closer to land. I dared stop to look forward. I was close. So close. I could see the individual light, torches of a town. And then I couldn't see anything. I panicked, struggling, kicking, spasming, anything, everything just give me air! My lungs felt hot and I longed to breath. And then I was. I sucked in air for moments before it was water entering my lungs as I was sent back into the inky ocean. I surfaced again, screaming, somebody! Anybody! Help! Through the chaos and terror I heard shouts. People were coming to help! And then for a split second I felt a sharp pain in my head and then felt no more.
