"Asami!"

Just ignore it. They'll go away.

There was a sharp knock at the door. "Asami? Are you in there?"

Asami hastily put out her cigarette and waved her hair around to disperse the cloud of smoke. The window was open but there was only so much she could do.

What could they possibly want? She flipped the page annoyed. When all of them hung out together, it was hard for her to get a word in edgewise, but when she wanted some time to herself to read and indulge her bad habit they all had to come knocking. "Come in."

Korra, Mako and Bolin all entered the room to find her seated on the windowsill with an open book in her lap.

She raised an eyebrow. "Yes?"

"It smells weird in here." Bolin commented, and Asami tucked the package of cigarettes behind her back. She rarely smoked, but recently with the information she had gained about her father she had been lighting up more than she meant to.

"What is it that you guys want?" She didn't even feel guilty about the bite in her voice. Jinora had lent her a few books, and she was just reaching the climax of the heroic tale of a woman general.

"We were going into the city, we wanted to see if you would like to join us." Mako stepped forward and held her hand.

She sometimes forgot she was dating him. Whoops.

That was nice of them to think of you. She told herself, taking her hand out of Mako's grasp. "Thanks, but I'm just going to stay in tonight."

"Are you sure?" Mako hesitated.

"I need some time to myself." She told them all, holding up her book. "I don't know if you realize but I've had a lot going on the past couple of days, I'm not really in the mood to go out in the city."

"Oh alright." Korra took a step backwards.

"You're sure you don't want to come?" Mako offered one more time.

"I'm sure, thank you for asking." She turned back to the pages of her book. "Shut the door on your way out."

Her three friends left, slightly confused she was sure, but it wasn't her job to make everyone happy. She picked up the half of a cigarette she had put out and relit it, taking a drag as she reached the next chapter.

This was exactly what she needed.

I don't know why, but I can see Asami smoking when she gets stressed. SHe thinks that it's a disgusting habit and she hides it from everyone, but it's just something she does.
