It's time for a wrestling match, ladies and gents! In one corner, we have water-boy Percy Jackson, and in another we have Mr. S. Who will be tonight's champ?
Percy is standing in one corner of his room, looking down at his sock. His inner monologue is running a TV show that only Percy could relate to while the rest would probably laugh.
It's always a struggle during summer vacation: him and his socks.
When going grocery shopping with his mom, when going to a formal occasion, traveling to a museum, and just about anywhere else, he has to wear socks.
But not today, because it's beach day. And that means sandals. It means the flip and the flop of the soles flicking every time he walks. Percy loves it because it's freedom. Percy is imagining himself running across the scorching sand, and his feet dipping into the cool of the ocean. He loves the salty-sweet air in the breeze for he's the water's boy. He's always going to be Poseidon's boy. When summer comes rolling around, and after major quests are done with, he spends his last days living at the beach. Sally Jackson gets worried, but this guy survived once by sleeping on a Pillow Pet. He knows he'll be fine, but his mother laughs every time he tries to tell her about the Pillow Pet scenario.
Percy groans at the sock. He doesn't want to put it on. He may be acting like a five-year-old, but summer is his Christmas. Percy circles around man's creation of the piece of fabric. In times of life and death scenarios, the sock would be a determinant in helping one survive. It sometimes prevents blisters. Socks are nice and cozy on a winter's day.
But it's not winter, and the feeling of taking off the sock is another story. In the biggest sense, it's freedom. It's the feeling of a weight being lifted from the turbulence of the day.
And here Perseus Jackson stands with the moral dilemma of whether or not to wear a sock.
"Hey, Seaweed Brain. Put on your socks—we're gonna be walking around all day today," his queen, Annabeth, commands from down the hall.
Percy immediately puts on his socks and rolls his eyes, but he sticks a pair of flip-flops in his backpack anyway.
He grins at the thought of Annabeth and their upcoming date. It's going to be a nice couple of days camping. She can study the stars or ocean while he studies her. Afterwards, maybe make out a couple of times…or all night.
"Coming," Percy replies, going to the flip and the flop of Annabeth's voice downstairs.
Freedom, he thinks.

So after all the PJO I've been writing, here's my first Percabeth! I ship them bad! Duh. They are the main OTP, after all. This just popped into my head, and of course Percy couldn't say no to Annabeth. :D
Tell me what you think by slipping in a review. ;)
Thanks to mew-tsubaki for beta'ing. You should go check out her multitude of PJO and Harry Potter fics. She's done fics for other fandoms as well!
