I can't live without you,
I can't live without you,
baby. Oh, baby.
Nina sat in the front seat of her black SUV, driving home from a friend's house. The clock on her dash read 12:46.
The exact time she and Fabian kissed at their first prom.
Nina knew this. 'Don't remember, Nina, stop!' the girl thought. She turned on the radio, anxious to erase her longing for Fabian to be right there by her side.
The song that started playing was something all too familiar.
"It's the things you do for me. It's the way you make me feel ..." It was her and Fabian's dance song. She turned it off immediately. In that moment, Nina's heart hurt worse than it had when she wrote her boyfriend his goodbye letter.
Turning the radio back up, Nina listened to a different song. This one was no better than the first, because it reminded her of how she felt in that moment.
"The highway don't care if you're all alone, but I do, I do." For the first time in months, she really started to think about whether or not Fabian missed her. She sure as Hell missed him.
Fifteen minutes passed. Nina busied herself with deciding what she was going to do with her friends that weekend, concentrating on forgetting Fabian. But then she drove by the sign. She had driven by it every day for seventeen years, but never really taken notice of it. This time, it was too relevant to not notice.
It read Rutter Road, exit 96. And Nina broke down crying.
She finished the drive home, and as soon as she pulled into the driveway, the girl got out of her car and sprinted to the cul de sac at the end of one of the streets in her large neighborhood. Nina stood on the sidewalk farthest from her house and that God-awful car, and pulled out her phone, quickly dialing Fabian's number. She needed to hear his voice.
Fabian answered on the second ring, sounding excited and a bit nervous that Nina was calling him.
"Nina?" he asked happily.
"Hi." she breathed. Fabian could tell she was crying by the way she choked back tears.
"Are you okay?" he prompted nervously. The last thing the brunette boy wanted was for his love to be in danger.
"I need to see you. Now." Nina stated. She could almost feel Fabian's smile through the phone.
"I just - I mean, everyone's around me, and I still feel all alone. I miss you, and I need to see you now." she demanded.
"Then I guess I made the right decision." Fabian said mysteriously, causing Nina to furrow her brows in confusion.
"Turn around." he told her. And when she did, he was standing right there, right at the front of the street.
"Fabian." Nina whispered. She ran to her boyfriend, and fell into his arms, which he wrapped around her protectively.
For the first ten minutes, they didn't talk at all. They just held on to each other with everything they had, and everything they knew.
"How did you know to come tonight?" Nina asked quietly, finally breaking the silence.
Fabian paused before answering.
"I kept seeing signs this past week," he began, "things like our song on the radio, or your name popping up in random places. So, I came back."
"I missed you." Nina breathed, suddenly slamming her lips into Fabian's, both lovers pouring every part of themselves into the kiss.
Fate has funny ways of working.
Hey! This is a random drabble I wrote after listening to "Highway Don't Care" by Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift, and Keith Urban. I freaking love that song. Hope you liked the story, please review! - Sydney
